I have five packets of freshly harvested Acer macrophyllum seeds each containing 25 seeds (if you want more or less than 25 just let me know). These seeds should be winter sown and don't store long so I'd like to get them off to their new homes as quickly as possible. I'd be interested in any seeds on my want list and just about anything else OP or species whether it be flower, veggie, tree or shrub so if you're interested just let me know. Thanks, Amanda

Bill, Different types of trees and different types of soils and environments can result in different root profiles, but many studies suggest that over half of most tree's root system is in the top foot of soil and over 99 percent of the root system is within the top three feet of soil. If you go into the woods and find trees that have been uprooted, you'll be able to see that, in most cases, the larger roots are very shallow. The rootball of an uprooted large tree is usually very shallow compared to its width. Removing one large tree root isn't usually that big of a deal, but when you cut through many or all of the roots on one side of a tree, you could have a real problem. If you are in doubt about the safety of the tree (especially if it's near your house, car, children, etc.) and you plan on keeping it, you might want to at least consider having an arborist come out and take a look. Without a lot more info, I couldn't tell you what the chances of it falling are, but can you take that chance? Large falling trees can be really dangerous.

Hi Liz There are probably 4 main maple types that would be represented in the Quebec landscape The rule of thumb is Silver and Red Maples which I believe are referred to as soft maples flower early and hence their seeds mature in Mid June. The other types Sugar and Black maples have seed that matures in the fall September onward. I believe these are called hard maples but I could be wrong. Other maples of note are both Mountain Maple and Striped maple they are native to the Quebec landscape. They are smaller in size. If you are looking for Hardy Maples.. A Maple seed from southern region might succumb to the cold. ie. Southern Ontario. If you cant find seed, a great place that sells hardy seeds is "Gardens North" they specialize in Hardy Genotypes of native species. Cheers and good luck Jeff

Hello- Although I'd love your seedlings, I'm in BC, and shipping may be a bit risky. I'd be interested to trade something for seedlings if you are open to sending by mail. I'd like to get a dozen or so growing out on the acreage. Seems they love water and grow exceptionally fast- they'd bring shade to me and the livestock- while the "good" trees are taking root. In time the silvers will be cut down to make room for the other shade trees. I read they break easily in wind/ice storms so they aren't permanent trees- just functional.
