Question about biscuits and gravy casserole

I wanted to do something a little different from my usual sausage/egg/bread/cheese Easter get-together casserole, so i decided to do a simple biscuits and gravy casserole. Please don't hate me, but I'm using tubular :) store-bought biscuits. I don't want any egg. I've seen a million recipes that are all different. Anyone make a simple one of these that doesn't turn out under or over-done? I'm unsure about how to treat the biscuits. Do I bake them ahead of time, cut in half, spoon sausage gravy over them, then add the biscuit tops and spoon more gravy..............or do I put the unbaked biscuits in the casserole with the gravy ? I don't want to cut the biscuits into pieces though....I want them whole (or sliced in half).

I appreciate any suggestions. I will be taking this to a get-together that's an hour away. I've heard it's just as good later too. But mostly........I don't know how to deal with the biscuits. Thanks!
