If it's a casserole, I would think you could make substitutions right and left. I know a lot of pot roast recipes use colas or even beers. I would think about doing a cola. Don't know your recipe, but I would think all you're really adding is a flavored liquid to the dish. Water and sugar... It may taste a little different but it will be edible; you could even like it more! Let us know how it turns out if you use a substitute.

No Peek Casserole

From Anne @ The KT Recipe Exchange This is a recipe that my family literally will fight over. It makes a delicious gravy (what they fight over) and absolutely nothing to making it.I double the recipe and there is still none left at the end of the meal.

No Peek Casserole
2 lbs stew meat (I use 3 lbs)
1 can Campbell's Chicken Mushroom Soup
1/2 cup Ginger Ale
1 pkg Lipton Onion Soup Mix
1 4 oz jar mushrooms, drained (optional)

Preheat oven to 300. Combine ALL ingredients (DO NOT brown meat and DO NOT dilute soup with water) together. Mix well. It will be lumpy before it's cooked. Pour into a casserole dish and cover. Bake 2 1/2 to 3 hours. DON'T PEEK!! Serve over pasta, rice or mashed potatoes. The smell as it's cooking is WONDERFUL

I've heard everyone rave about this cassarole before, but why does everything have cream of mushroom soup? I can't stand that stuff or mushrooms! I wonder if I could substitue a different cream soup and leave out the mushrooms? Cream of potato? Cream of celery?

Teresa,I find casserole recipes are very forgiving. I would substitute any flavor soda (except coke) for the ginger ale, and any soup. I use campbells cream of cheddar soup in a lot of my casseroles. and I would even substitute chicken for the stew meat. .

Nita, I can't remember ever seeing Chicken Mushroom Soup. Is that correct, or is it just Mushroom Soup? I'm making out my grocery list (for someone else to pickup for me).

Here's the recipe without the soup. I'm sure you can leave it out totally (although I would add a little more liquid) or easily subsitute a cream of chicken, celery or potato. I use those in place of the cream of mushroom soup a lot. And, I'm sure you can leave out the mushrooms altogether. It's just a slow roasting stew, you can do what you want with it.

Thought it wss too soupy, so I added sour cream!

I have made this before with chicken breast or thick sliced boneless pork chops instead of beef,substituted cream of chicken or cream of celery for the soup because DH won't eat mushroom in any form.Delicious!
Ginger Ale does come in one serving cans and bottles at just about any convenience or grocery store.
