Need trellis ideas
Comments (12)The type of trellis depends on what you are trying to grow on it. I have several different trellis ideas for different crops. If you are growing something like peas, here is one I have tried that works well: https://goo.gl/XY5bea I use this kind of trellis for my cucumbers and tomatoes: https://goo.gl/dw3JwM I also have one for fava beans if you are interested. Hope that helps....See MoreNeed trellis ideas for growing sweet peas?
Comments (3)My sister grows her sweet peas on her chain-link fence. However, her fence is 6 ft tall. I haven't grown them myself, but I like the looks of bamboo tee-pees. I guess you would need some cotton string or twine, if sweet peas need something thinner to wrap their tendrils around. We had a flag pole in my old yard, which would have been a great center to attach twine for climbing. I also read on one of the forums about someone who used an old umbrella frame from a patio table as the center of their climbing vines. I might take a trip to the dump to see what tall things you could find. It definitely depends on your taste and what your neighbors will tolerate. You can also get sections of portable cattle fencing. I'm not certain of the measurements, but they might be 4'x12'? Lots of options. Let us know what you decide to do. If you have space, you could try a few different methods and see what you like best. Martha...See MoreDIY trellis ideas?
Comments (19)We do not have much for shopping here. I even have to order my soil online. The large bumble bee clips that vermont hoya guy uses are nice. I have been unsuccessful at even finding them online in a quantity of over 6. Please let me know if you see any online. thank you and by the way Jan, your cuttings are still doing great! I lost one, and one is still rather iffy, but amazed at how healthy and thriving my other cuttings are doing. Thank you again. Robin...See More"Cheap-ish" Trellis Ideas?
Comments (18)Heya, I understand it will be hard to tie them together as it would be slippery - makes sense. I will give it a shot - if that doesn't work I'll try the netting option. I did see a couple of successful Teepees made from PVC - but I won't kid myself I know it will be hard. Yeah I definitely plan on using the twine in the Teepee to allow the plants to climb up. I plan on "training" the plants for that. I got the idea from the following picture: http://cf.happinessishomemade.net/wp-content/uploads/blogger/-rJV3G6Okn8I/UVPXXehmPEI/AAAAAAAAOWY/XlURQ8Fn2sE/s1600/How-to-build-construct-a-bean-tepee-teepee-tipi.jpg That being said @Daninthedirt are you saying I can't use twine but need to use metal netting? I'm getting 10 feet PVC pipes so I plan on pushing at least 1-2 feet into the ground - won't that provide enough stability? Any thoughts on the sun issue - see my previous post Again thanks and any advice is appreciated!!...See Morepurslanegarden
