I have the same type of soil. CLAY! What I did, that worked well for me, was to loosen up the soil with a shovel. Then I dumped compost and bags of garden soil over top of the area. I used the shovel to mix it up a bit. Every fall I cover the area with leaves that decompose and really improve the texture. Whenever I plant now, I toss in more compost if I have it or Garden Soil from a bag. It keeps getting better and better. I don't think you'll need to haul away any soil. I already answered another post of yours, and it sounds like you might have already replaced the soil. (You can read my comments in that other post) Anyway, two things stand out in these pics: (1) no mulch (2) other stuff in the containers (lemon peels??) If you have pictures of the fungus that is now on the foliage, that might be helpful in diagnosing the specific problems you're now having.

Interesting post; I just came in from mulching cabbage and here is a mulch question. On the cabbage it was planted for fall harvest the last of June the first of July. and I want to keep the soil cool so I just pulled some handfuls of grass along my raised bed and put in 2 inches loose. Another thing I just started was when I weed I put the pulled weeds in the square around the tomatoes (if The weeds are not yet seeded). They make a great but sparse mulch. I really go more by the amount of sun that hits the ground around the plant and watch the soil temperature more so than the water. Cultivating/hoeing will conserve the water Curt~

Is this plant in a container? Is it indoors? Has it possibly been exposed to a herbicide of any kind? Perhaps drift from a neighbors spray? Tomato leaf roll (where the leaves roll up from side to side) is a physiological problem for plants that are stressed from some problem growing condition. It usually requires no treatment. It resolves itself. But these leaves are curling backwards from what I can see (photo is blurry) and that is almost always a result of herbicide exposure. If no chance of that and it is a container plant, how big is the container? The only other possible explanation I know of is that the container is too small and the plant is rootbound.
