Does anyone have a Wolf induction cooktop or decide against one ?
Comments (28)It's not too loud most of the time, but is noticeable when the room is otherwise quiet. I am staring to get used to the sounds made by the cooktop. They are louder when the pan is cold or empty, and the sizzling or bubbling does effectively cover up the tick-buzz rhythm. It also varies depending on what utensil is being, used with cast iron being the quietest. My Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 10" skillet is the noisiest , but a similarly sized Scanpan non-stick makes only moderate noise as does the 3 qt. Calphalon saute' pan. I guess it has to do with resonant frequencies and the physics of the situation. Since I really like the cooking performance, layout, efficiency and easy cleaning of the stove I will learn to live with the sounds it generates. My only other complaint with the unit is the childproof lock. I have no need for a nanny looking over my shoulder making sure I don't do anything dangerous. The unit doesn't even turn on unless there's a appropriately sized magnetic object on top and shuts off if it gets too hot. There are no locks on other types of cooktops. It is annoying to have to wait for the controls to unlock, but I have found that if I put a wet sponge on the "key", it will enable the controls while I do other things. Is there a way to permanently disable the lock feature for us grown-ups?...See MoreWolf Gas Cooktop jitters...
Comments (13)Hi Doonie, Best of wishes for your decision on Wolf open rangetop vs sealed rangetop. I've just made the switch from a vintage open burner range to a sealed Wolf. For what it is worth, I'm happed with the sealed burners. I'm an enthusiastic home cook, not a professional. I made my decision based on my need for a flexible, dependable range for home cooking. I did not expect to be able to replicated restaurant stir fry on my stove. Be sure you are comparing apples to apples, i.e. Wolf rangetop to Wolf rangetop (not cooktop). The open burners rangetop offers 16,000 BTU on all burners and the sealed burner rangetop offers 15,000 BTU on all but one burner (the back left burner is a lower simmer burner). Some cooks will notice a slight difference in the loss of BTU stepping down from 16,000 to 15,000 BTU. I did a test with a friend (sealed vs open) and it translated into about 1 minute longer to heat a big pot of pasta water. But for most purposes, you will not notice the difference. I get an excellent sear when I cook meat and great recovery time when I add additional pieces of meat to the pan. The flame patterns do look very different on the open than on the sealed burners; but a good quality All-Clad style pan/skillet will distribute the heat very evenly across the bottom of the pan on either the Wolf open or sealed burner. The ability to modulate and control the heat is excellent on both. The low simmer is amazing. This is something I could never do on my old stove. Also note that if you want the 30" Wolf rangetop, the sealed burner is your only option. Both sealed and open are available on the 36". To a certain extent the decision also comes down to aethetics: each rangetop has a different look. Which do you like better? I'm sure you have seen all the great advice on open vs sealed burners on the kitchen and appliance forums. Most people in the end seem happy with the decision they have made. Have you considered finding a store that permits you to try out their stoves live? For such a big purchase this seems like a good idea. Rest assured that in either case you are getting a great range top. And rest assured that no matter which one you pick you will still spend lots of time cleaning it -- at least if you are a messy cook like me!...See MoreDoes anyone have a 30" gas cooktop that they like?
Comments (0)I need to replace my 30" gas cooktop and find myself stumped. Most seem to have 5 burners but I can't figure out how anyone could use more than 3, given how crowded the surface is. If you use 4, they lower the BTUs on the highest burner; not sure why. Does anyone have a 30" 5 burner cooktop that they like? I'm looking for the layout that is most workable and practical; not necessarily the highest BTU output. Frontrunner in the 5 burner layout is the jenn-air; don't really have one in with 4 burners....See Moredoes anyone have the new wolf contemporary 36" gas cooktop?
Comments (125)“does anyone, know if you can install a wall oven under the Wolf cooktop?” @susanrhill34 - there are issues with installing a wall oven under a cooktop. First, there is a clearance issue. You must make certain to abide by the clearance specified for below the cooktop, and the clearance specified for above the wall oven. There often is not enough room for both, so you’d have to find another combination of cooktop and wall oven where there would be enough clearance for both. Second, the wall oven installed under a cooktop will be so low to the ground that when the oven door is open, it is nearly touching the ground, and that low height is awkward and cumbersome for taking things out of the oven that are boiling hot, heavy, and/or sloshing. Third, you would be better served with buying a range. A range would cost thousands less than a cooktop with wall oven underneath including the challenges of installing them....See Morehappyallison
