I wonder if I am the only one that finds sites like those boring. I have better things to do with my time.

Emma, I don't find Facebook boring at all. It gives me a chance to interact with friends I don't see very often. Of course exchanging recipes is fun too!! :)

I have so few "friends" and most are relatives...so it's a wonderful way to see pictures sent by my ds on a business trip for msu college, in Burma, and a trip dil is on in Africa...

I've received emails from friends with no messages and a second addy...those are sent off to spam file...

I am finally getting to know my family in The Netherlands because of Facebook.

Mary....Most people agree with you, I just the exception. I like my privacy and don't want to open my ID up to the public.

I do emails and sometimes my sis and I will communicate several times a day like a conversation.

I just joined Facebook in the last few months, when a family member asked me to. I have learned so much from family members that I had lost contact with - I really enjoy 'talking' to them via Facebook, and am glad I joined.

joann, the only other person I'm aware of who had their FB account hacked was a friend whose account was hacked by her now EX-husband! :p

Its how I keep up with my grandchildren, The older ones.

I like it for keeping track of my relatives in another state. Also when I cannot get to some of my relatives events in this state, the pictures are there for me to see. I do post comments but all of us are careful.

My account was hacked awhile ago. You just need to change your password. Put a notice that you have been hacked so if anyone is getting request to friend you they will know not to respond.

I don't find facebook to be boring at all. I've been a member on online communities since 1998 and think that facebook is a fantastic way of keeping up with friends and acquaintances that are now scattered around the globe.

I'm selective about how I send and accept friend requests from and I would say there are only about 10 people on my friend list that I don't know personally and they are friends of friends.

Actually, a group that I've been a member since 98 lost someone very recently. She suffered from a brain hemorrhage and was gone within 48 hours. I never had the privileged of meeting her in person, but my loss is just as profound as if we people who met for lunch every week.

Anyway, my community gathered together on facebook chat around the time they took her off life support and it was a great comfort to us to be together in real time (rather than on our message board) to support each other and celebrate her life.

Gosh, sorry for the total off topic babbling. I was just anti-facebook for years, because I am protective of my privacy. But then I realized that my facebook experience can be what I want it to be and not what the "facebook machine" says it should be.

Also, if you've been hacked, please do what lindyluwho said and let people know! I've had relatives that have been hacked and they didn't tell people, so some of their friends and family also got hacked.

I read quite a variety of US and international newspapers through FB....all free. Tons of recipes posted by a variet of cooking forums....FB.

I dragged my feet from going to facebook but seemed so many did, they closed down their boards they had and so if I wanted to keep finding out and chatting, then I had to join and I did and happy I did. Yes, there are many that do get hacket and yes, tell your friends you have been hacked and change your password. Some got but I didn't see it horrible things being said when hacked.

Yes, you have to be very careful who you accept on your friendship list. I had to bump someone off as she wouldn't let me alone and I couldn't say anything and she would come along all the time, felt like I was being stalked and so off she got, then someone who I thought was a good friend for years said something and off she went. Don't hesitate, even family, maybe make a private group for yourself and just who you want in and then one with family so if trouble starts then its separate from others.

Its how you make it.

Emma, it's a common misconception that Facebook is a public forum and a board like this one (the KT) is more private. Your FB profile and postings are as private as you want them to be.

I'm not encouraging you to join, though, as it's all about personal choice. But for me, I really enjoy it.
