Fess up: Who's not done planting yet?
Comments (31)I was 'done' planting annuals, but yesterday I went to the nursery and got some more impatiens (just in case I have to fill in some spots here and there - ha). I ended up planting one of those grow bags with impatiens (it was lots of fun trying to stuff those roots in there). Anyone have any luck with the grow bags? How do you water those once they get going? Oh, one a side note - I found some browallias (!) that were just transplanted. Not very big, but I snatched up 4-4pks....See MoreI can't be the only one not done yet
Comments (33)I've got the double whammy here. We got this prematurely frigid winter weather like a lot of you guys, plus I gimped up my ankle last week. I'm waiting for it to heal and the swelling to go down but it doesn't seem to be getting better, its been over a week now. I must have really strained it with all that back and forth walking around I frantically did in the garden before the front hit, savoring the last few days and digging up that Flame Acanthus didn't help. I also broke the shovel trying to get it out. The arctic front killed stuff back and now there's piles of green leaves everywhere along with fallen branches but there's plenty of dead looking green leaves still up in the trees so its just the beginning of the leaves. I guess its good that its so cold which helps force me to stay inside like a good patient and off the ankle. I look out the window and it appears overwhelmingly depressing looking out there at the moment, like a disaster in fact. Today is sunny and 50 degrees and I'm dying to get out there to start cleaning up the mess but I don't dare. I guess I will get it cleaned up finally but usually I do it in stages. I'm kind of pitted with this weather and the rest of it....See MoreAre we done yet?
Comments (34)Make the best that you can of your surroundings. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is toooooo late. Sometimes we scratch our heads - - when , how, what tha, where. Gardening sure makes you think. Wish that I could plug into alabamaicole and many others at times to figures something out. An overall plan which I can not grasp. What goes with this, how big will this get, where is the best placement for this or that. Research is great, but I sure don't believe everything I read ......if someone from the GW has input into a problem that I am having trouble with ( thinking it out ).....I tend to go with the hands on person here....it is like having a hundred PLANT DOCTORS... helping solve or come up with a solution. Garden people who ReAlLy c-a-r-e are right here to keep frost off your plants, to prune, how to care for with years of experience. If my computer goes out, I will surly go bald.....er. As for "Are we done Yet?" Hot August nites are on there way. Alabama Power says "Thank You."...See MoreHas Your Nelly Moser Done Anything Yet?
Comments (6)I have a Hagley Hybrid thats at least 7 years old that never returned and shows no signs yet either. I am not digging it up, however, as I had a similar thing happen to a couple of other clematis a few years ago(Jackmanii that I thought they were dead) and then in late June they finally started growing. Of course they were a smaller version of themselves that year but within a couple of years they returned to their glorious self. I am only guessing but perhaps every few years part of the root died but part didn't? Either that or maybe the part that's below ground and readily sends up shoots in spring died out? Anyway, I wish you luck and hopefully mine will make an appearance too. It's my favorite clematis and in part shade so when I planted it as a small plant it took a while to get established. Almost debating buying a new one as a back up, but then I may have to find root for two. Oh, I also have a little duckling clematis (better known as Piilu) that appears dead. As it was it's first winter and the second Piilu I am trying, for that one I assume it just wasn't hardy enough. Glen...See Moremksmth zone 7a Tulsa Oklahoma
