Need Help Identifying this Orchid

This december, I bought two of these huge bulbs (about 6 inches tall) from Chiang Mai Thailand, and I planted them according what the seller told me. I live in Spain, so, my orchid is still in the greenhouse. It spiked right away, and has tiny flowers on the spike in a bunch. What kind of an orchid is this? I have tried to do research, but, nothing!!! I was counting on your expert help in identifying my baby. Thank you

Comments (3)It it an orchid of the Vanda type. No way of telling which type from the leaves. The plant is unhappy! This type of orchid is usually grown in some sort of free draining mixture, in a normal pot with enlarged drainage holes or in something like a net pot. None of mine are on the ground. They are suspended so that air can circulate around the roots. What is the climate like in the part of Nepal where you live? Comments (9)If you buy a plant that is not in bloom, make sure you read the label. If you are indeed looking for the species, L. purpurata, they are quite common on the market. There a a number of color forms: tipo (typical lavender), semi-alba (white with dark purple lip), carnea (pink forms), werkhauserii (violet blue lip forms), sanguinea (dark, reddish color overall) and striata (a striped form) and caerulea (blue-like) forms. Now, what you have pictured seems more like a hybrid: like Lc. Canhanamiana: a classic and very early hybrid. As with all cattleya type orchids (and now purpurata falls into the cattleya family) all need moderately high light requirements to bloom. They don't tolerate heavy shade. If you do grow them in the home, have the plant in a South facing window. And in the summer, take it outside in a shade house, or under the shade of a tree that doesn't produce dense shade: a locust tree has fne leaves. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves. This subtribe consists of about 70 genera with ..." So your orchid could be an Oncidium or an Oncidium crossed with something else or even crossed with multiple Genera. You might get an id if it is something that has been mericloned (copied) and many copies have been sold. An example of this is Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance'. Comments (6)Soooo ... no way to tell any better than just "phalaenopsis"? No guess at the particular type of phalaenopsis? No suggestions for how to treat this in a desert climate? I already googled before I came here. (I GUESSED they were phalaenopsis from the leaves but wasn't sure). Anything dealing with being in a desert was along the lines of "when I moved to Arizona I lost 100 of my orchids, they need to be specially treated in a dry climate, you'll have to guess how" or "here is how I set up my $250,000 greenhouse to auto mist in my desert climate". Neither of which help me all that much, LOL! I did stumble across a LOT of information about Growstone and orchids. From what I've read, I might try it some day but only in combinations with peat moss to counteract the alkalinity of the Growstone. Not going to try that right out of the starting gates though. I spent years trying to find a good soil mix for my potted plants (indoors and out) because I hadn't been able to get coarse vermiculite for decades and any kind of bark that would be useful for a potting mix was also getting harder to find (and in fact 3 years ago ALL the local big box stores stopped carrying anything except shredded cedar, rubber, and dyed ground up old houses in anything approaching an appropriate potting mix size). Growstone and peat (the crappy finely milled peat that is all I've been able to find here in the last couple of years) has made an EXCELLENT potting mix for everything I grow, but ... maybe not these orchids, so much, LOL!...See Moredankhara
