never give up!
Comments (16)Six successive plants of the horrid rose, Church Mouse. Three for Paul Neyron; two for Purple Tiger, though it did significantly better if kept in a pot and on "TPN", total parental nutrition, even then, it was never close to anything I would call "decent". Four plants of Fantan, all of which finally did the only honorable thing, they died. One for Morden Ruby, which was absolutely not suitable for my climate, but gorgeous when it obliged. I'm on my seventh budded plant of Mint Julep and the jury is still out on it. Sometimes, there is just that "juno se qua" about a rose that keeps me trying, most often far longer than reason would have allowed. Kim...See MoreThe tile saga...lesson: never give up...LONG
Comments (14)Thanks guys. As I emailed back to Omar in Cairo: "I'm doing the happy dance". Progress is slowly being made on other items...all but two cabinets now have operating doors. All slides have been replaced and all doors and drawers are more or less even and flat now. The awful upper cabinet in the scullery area has been replaced. I found a way to restain the beadboard in the scullery area so it all more or less matches and have given it four coats of tung oil wiping varnish so far. The only major item left is to get all the painted cabinets repainted properly. That is unfortunately not likely to happen until I get my hot little hands on some of the $20K the Md. Home Improvement Commission is supposed to pay me. And that I understand won't happen till Sept. at earliest, since the last two Md. state civil servants involved were wholly incompetent: First, the investigator gave my attorney incorrect information about having to wait for the judge's final order converting the arbitration award to a court judgment and thus delaying the process for 2 and a half months. Then he lost my file, waited to weeks till I called before he got a replacement one and finally, failed to pass it on to his boss before he left his job. When the boss finally located the file and passed it to the Attorney General's office, they sent the RTSOG the wrong letter informing him of the judgement and advising him of his right to respond, losing another 10 days until my attorney told them it was the wrong letter and they managed to get the right one out. It has been an exercise in patience. Meanwhile, no chance of getting the remaining $2,000 directly from the RTSOG. We tried to garnish his company's bank account, but there was only $4 in it. Anyone know of any legal, inexpensive and preferably deliciously wicked ways of tormenting him to get my money? Or at least of making his life just a fraction as miserable as he has made mine for the past 2 and a half years?...See MoreBack from the dead - why I never give up on a wintered rose till June
Comments (16)nickjoseph and nippstress: The name of the rose is Spectra, and that is how it looked yesterday. In 2014 it emerged around July 15 after that brutal winter. It did not flower, and was a weakling in 2014. Now it has 12 basal breaks, and is back to normal. Spectra is a large flowered climber; in France it is considered a hybrid tea if memory serves me correctly. Usually we cannot grow large flowered climbers in the Midwest. I planted two of these elsewhere in town and they died within 2-years. Behind my office where this is grown I have a microclimate that is probably more like Zone 7, with a southern exposure. I have buildings on the West, my shorter building on the North, and a longer one on the East that block the wind. In other words this rose bed is in the inside of a U facing south. I planted a small bed of 5-roses about 15 years ago when I moved in and they grow amazingly well. I have had almost no disease issues in this bed. The Prince gets 4 feet wide, and 5-6 feet tall. Spectra when it comes up timely like it is this year usually gets 8-9 feet tall. About 8-years ago I put a cane in the ground and it grew into a rose bush (Polarstern). If you have any tips how to post pics, I'd appreciate it because it is hit or miss for me. I posted pics on this site more than a decade ago, and even 4-5 years ago on the fruit and orchard subsite, when this site had a different interface. Now, I cannot figure out how to reliably post pics within a post....See MoreGood God, it never ends. Please explain longer drawers - 27 inch cab
Comments (32)Thank you. The 24" note says will not work with rear brackets. What does that mean? I apologize. How can under mounted glides be attached to the side? Basically, I need to understand what bits and pieces I need to buy to have the 24" undermount. What side brackets would I need to get for the 24" undermount to work? I am trying to figure out the cost difference. Is this the right thing blum 24" What else do I need other than new drawers? I don't understand the rear v. side bracket issue. I apologize for being dense....See Morejojotennis
