G'day Gary, they removed the Australian forums altogether when Houzz took over. I emailed them about it and they promised to restore them. And now they've finally done it. But I fear that the regulars got caught up in the mess that came with the takeover and gave up on Gardenweb. I've been waiting for email advice of responses to my post but you've been the only one so far. Let's hope the others find their way back.

That's Lady Slipper Vine, Thunbergia mysorensis? I've got one that's run up into a tree but it's always looked spindly and unhealthy, still surviving though. I can only think it's the soil I put it into, pretty poor stuff. Will have to get around to improving it (in my spare time, LOL).

I only came back after three years because I Googled a rare plant, when I was linked to Houzz, I was discombobulated, as were most of the folks who came back I am guessing. Some never will return. The format of the website is very commercial, and seedy (no pun intended). Houzz is using the database of consumers for the old Gardenweb to try to make money. It makes sense, but it's not a good match: the new company and the old format. Still, this seems to be the default spot for tropical critters Frank :)

That's it!! was supposed to grow up the shadehouse and provide dappled shade . Has done that but has climbed a Guava tree seems MUCH happier there .lol has a remarkable growth habit as it doesn't twine ,no tendrils and incredibly thin stems . Reached accross the SH ,over 8 feet with no support lol. much better than its relative Sky vine covered evrything it touched .lol

Tropical Gardener, I made a similar comment on another thread where people were complaining about the change. It's commercial reality, the opportunity you get if you put up the dollars.

Gary, I don't know the "Sky Vine", at least not by that name. But you've nudged me into doing something about my Lady Slipper. I'll build up well composted soil around it with some slow release fertiliser, stand back and see what happens. The tree it's in has some Dendrobium affine in it and one of the vines runs through it. Would be nice to see a mix of the two flowering.

Thungergia grandiflora. among the "clock vines " has sky blue flowers there is also gregorii "Kings mantle " purple flowers and erecta has yellow with black centers ."black eyed susan " there is also an orange form. All of these are very invasive at least here.

As to the "mysorensis there are several types of these with great variation in the flower form.. They refer to them as "Bricks and Butter" here lol

The "Sky vine " Bengal clock vine " has a very invasive Shingling habit the leaves overlap and will cover everything 3 times over!! It is gorgeous if one had the room??

The "mysorensis " is much more open does not entwine but the stems with the flowers will get a meter long they look gorgeous in the shadehouse where allowed to hang down in the trees they tend to be not as conspicuous . One more note they attact bees by the dozens !!

Would think you'd do well with the "jade vines" in your area?? Too cold sensitve for me.lol gary

I stopped growing the clock vines years ago, they get huge in Puerto Rico, too big! We have both the blue and white, sometimes growing together by the side of the road. However, I am interested in mysorensis; cannot find it here: frustrating. I saw it at Balboa Park twenty years ago and never forgot it. Frank :)

I did a bit of research on the Sky Vine, you virtually need an exorcism to get rid of it. Apparently they put out a lot of seed. Getting a Jade Vine is on my "to do" list

The mysorensis is hard to find in nurseries here as well. I found mine when over in Queensland and brought it back with me. It's surprising they're not more commonly available.

I had difficulty finding it also Had to get on a waiting list with a local nursery just found out recently that there are several types varying by number and size of flowers ,Have no idea which I have lol. Besides the "Jades" another from your area that always impressed me was Tecomanthe dendrophylla called "Easter lily " vine do look like lilies BUT are various shades of pink though I've heard there is a white form . seems to range into northern Australia??

Nothing as spectacular as the "Jades" i tried bot the blue and the red killed them nboth lol You should have better luck without the pesky cold spells ?? gary

These are crinum (wine and milk) I threw off to the side, a month later they just came to life!

Gary, first saw Tecomanthe in Cooktown and was very impressed. Trouble is, it's another that you rarely ever see around.. Not here anyway.

I first saw the tecomanthe at a local butterfly farm Had it growing up a a palm really was spectacular but noted they had it ina a protected area Would suppose it quite cold sensitive.??

Anyway hope some of the people come back enjoyed looking at the pix. gary
