Strange software update

This popped up on my desktop today by the clock but I have no clue what it's for and have never seen it before. Running windows 7 and there is no way to see what software it's for. Clicked install later so I could research it and now I just got on the laptop and same thing so I took a screen shot and will see what someone says before I proceed. Ran malewarebytes and nothing found. If it's something legit there is no way to see what it is except to click install. Mary

Never mind, user error. I have seen this before. It's the software upgrade assistant for my Verizon software for my Samsung phone to connect it to the computer. Last time this happened I was supposed to remember so I wouldn't think it was spyware when it popped up. Mary

Just as an FYI, most Android phones will connect and function properly plugged in to a PC without using additional software.

For the handful of different ones I've tried over the years (different brands), when the USB connection is made, the phone will ask something like "Do you want to connect just to charge or connect as an external drive". If you choose the second, the phone charges anyway and it becomes visible in Windows Explorer as if it were a USB connected external drive. Which is pretty much what it is. The directory structure is visible and accessible. Files like photos or music can be copied on or off in the normal Windows way.

As others have mentioned, i too avoid installing unnecessary software. Maybe there's another function that the software you use performs that you find like. Myself, I've never seen the need. And yes, all photos get backed up from the family's phones in the way I described.

I don't know of any software on the market, but you should look into creating the interface he's looking for yourself. The hospital I work at now has an online job database that the HR staff can add, edit and delete jobs from without talking to me. You just create forms like the forum ones and have the information store in a database. The fun part is error checking. Oh yeah... lots of fun. Yes, only techs can access it. From what I've heard though, it is very rare for Miele is issue a SW update. Mine is almost 5 years old, and she the tech was out last year, I asked about it, and he said it really never happens.

The first part is because you likely have iTunes installed on your computer which installs support for connected devices (iPhones, iPads, iPods, etc). Can't speak to the other part, can you provide a screenshot?
