Another Appliance Rant

last modified: 11 years ago

I'm expanding on Georgysmom's thread about the dead seven-year-old fridge -- and complaints about problems due to mandated Energy Saving requirements.

I felt forced to replace the side-by-side GE fridge/freezer at our condo. All our appliances -- home and condo -- are 14 years old. We can't have a fridge fail when a guest has it loaded with food. I had to hurry because I learned that GE is phasing out what I needed. I don't know what other people with a 32" wide space and little room for 'door swing' will do in the future.

Got the new fridge, and now the condo dishwasher has a problem. I'm pretty sure that all it needs is a gasket insert, but I don't want to spend labor costs for someone to install that $12 part. So...off to find a replacement.

It took me days of online searching to find a replacement with the same "Rinse Only" cycle I use constantly. this is apparently due to Energy Star water-saving requirements. Today, manufacturers are raving about 'only one-hour' wash cycles. Yikes! Furthermore, the dishwasher I've ordered is also being phased out by GE. They *used* to make it in five colors; now only black or white. Don't other people wait until after dinner to run a full load of dishes, rinsing until then? I don't want a dishwasher full of cockroaches!
