Earth-Kind Roses Texas A@M
Comments (2)I observed in a post in the recent past that it seemed that the Earth Kind program had not made an announcement in a very long time and questioned whether the program was dead. Nothing comforting was forthcoming in that thread. In the thread linked below, I wrote the following about the discontinued postings of the results of performance ratings of roses by the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden of the New York Botanical Garden: "...an innocent might conclude that one would be wrong to say anything bad about a rose or roses, or conversely to advocate the virtues of any rose over any others, it may be that the Garden feels that it would not be politic of them to publish the results of their findings - I don't know." I have also observed on these forums that one of the most popular series of roses ever introduced - and ENTIRELY American I might add, is mostly rosa non grata here. These attitudes are out of sync with modern knowledge and sensibility. I hope better information is forthcoming in this thread. Comments (26)Here in Western Washington we do not have a humidity problem but in the spring and fall rain and rain and rain...well you get it. Many Ht's and Floribunda's get oodles of BS especially in the fall. I have ordered many EarthKind roses from Chamblee in Tyler Texas. They have performed magnificently. Amongst the OGR's most dont get BS. Those that do have not had significant leaf drop. There are exceptions however. So if anyonbe is looking for excellent roses that do well in this area the Chamblee list of Earthkind roses is a great starting point for an easy to care for garden. Comments (1)Here are the roses making the cut so far. Some hybrid, most not. Noticed Knock Out right away. I have grown Seafoam, The Fairy, and Perle d Or in Michigan 15 years ago and know they are old landscape roses. Nice concept Texas A&M has come up with. Comments (9)Speaking of the northern Earthkind trials, they really could at least let people know why no details have been released. There were six places involved in the trial. Colorado was the farthest west and Minnesota was the furthest north I think. Then there was Iowa and can't remember the rest. There were 3 separate sets of roses Kordes, Earthkind and Northern Earthkind. Not a word has been released. All of my inquires have been directed to Dr. Ziesak and that goes nowhere. It's annoying! Isn't the NYBG kind of warm. On the line of 6b and 7a it's not really my I idea of cold. Cream Veranda is excellent here. I'm loving my new this year Carl Ploberger....See Morenippstress - zone 5 Nebraska
