Help ID Antique Chair
Comments (1)Ca. 1840 "fancy" chairs, similar to Hitchcock chairs. There were many manufacturers of these, so without a label, it's nearly impossible to say who made it. I'd say these have a good chance of being the real thing, although this style has been reproduced for a long time. You may have original real rush on the seats. Turn the chair upside down. Does the underside of the woven part have seams that look like thick, sheared-off strands of grass? If so, that's real rush. "Modern" rush is made from twisted kraft paper, similar to paper grocery bags, and doesn't have the cut ends along the seams....See MoreAntique rose ID help

This fits stylistically as well. The carved decoration is applied to the post (as opposed to the carving being done as part of the post), which indicates a factory-made piece. The wood appears to be oak. It's in fine condition and the wood is attractive....See Morenoahila
