Even living up north, sometimes if it snows really bad on the weekends, the road crews aren't out because it's their day off. When you live in the south and it's snowing, you just have to stay at home because cars and ice just do not mix. Up here we have salt trucks...assuming it's not the weekend (ha!) to melt the ice which does help some. Still on bad days, you will see cars in the ditches even where we are "prepared".

It does not look like we will be getting any snow just rain here in Chilton County. Stay safe & warm!!

I'll be thinking of you. We went through that last week. We're only slated to get a "dusting of snow" tonight. whatever that means. I'm convinced no one, anywhere, has the wherewithal to get rid of ice. Even my northern transplant neighbors didn't deal well with it. They too fell. They too slid. Ice is a dangerous thing. Snow is another thing. But ice, not even they can drive on it. We have salt trucks which brine. We have snow plows, but ice? All you can do is hope it doesn't bring down trees onto your house and power lines. Stay safe rhizo!

It's snowing right now near Fort Worth, TX. Sorry for all of you that have to deal with it all the time. It's a novelty here and will melt mostly by this afternoon.

That reminds me of a trip we took one winter to visit my husband's parents. It was snowing and when we started home, the roads in Rogers and Bentonville was snow packed and slick. When we reached the Missouri border it was like a line was drawn across the highway there was no snow when we crossed that line. I guess Missouri cleans their highways better, much better. LOL

Here in the Atlanta area we are prepared. The schools are mostly closed, the roads are or will be prepared, people are encouraged to stay home and not venture out unless you have too, and we are waiting for it to start. lol The mountains and higher elevations will be the hardest hit. The total seems to be changing as to how much we will get as far as the snow. So here we sit waiting and waiting. Will we get anything or not? Nothing yet just a bright sky. Tomorrow may be a different story. What ever happens we will enjoy it and our family. We have been warned.

Winter has returned here to southern Alberta as well. Light dusting of snow, temps have dropped from +10C yesterday to -10C this morning.

I feel for you rhizo and arkansa girl. Your plows don't work on the weekends? It doesn't matter when it snows here, week days, weekends, nights.....when the weather turns, our plows hit the streets. Drivers deserve every cent they make! Road safety is paramount!

Several years ago, we flew into upstate NY to attend a family wedding scheduled for Valentine's day. There were three days of solid snow, well over a foot on one of those days. Nothing closed down! The schools were open, people went to the grocery to pick up this or that, everybody went to work.

That's where I grew up but have been away from since I left home after HS; it sure did bring back memories.

The rain started here in Clanton around 9 & it is 36º. Still think that the snow will stay north of us.

I am originally form Illinois & moved to Florida after the blizzard of '78-I do not miss the snow at all!!

Have beef stew in the crockpot.

Our plows are out no matter what. It's very rare that the interstate is closed. Get out there and get in a wreck so the paramedics and emergency personnel can rescue you. Oh, and if they get hit, so be it. It's far more important to be out on the road then to wait it out a day.

It's at it here again today. I'm pretty tired of it.

I've lived in NE Pa my entire life, except for 2 yrs, when I lived in Ga. I've seen a lot of cold weather, snow and ice. I can honestly say that weekend or not, the plows and salt trucks are out there doing their jobs. State rds and turnpikes might be a little quicker to be plowed, but in general the rds are cleared enough to travel if you absolutely have to be out. Smart citizens usually stay home on the day of the storm, but the following day, it's business as usual, weekend or not.
