Comments (17)akinhouston, Have you tried typing Kubota MX5100 into Google and looked at what comes up? Then type in the same thing and add the word "problems" and see what happens. Do the same thing with the Mahindra model of choice. I have a buddy who owns two MX Kubota 4WD tractors with loaders on them. He mows fields in the summer and clears snow in the winter. He's quite happy with them both. I have another buddy with an MX loader Kubota he bought new for his personal use. No complaints from him either. I can't say that I've heard anything negative about the Mahindra's. For me, the issue always comes down to WHY you are buying a machine and how many hours per year you expect to put on it. I don't know of any really bad brands out there today. The most important thing is dealer support for parts and repair expertise. Just because something is not made on the North American continent does not make it inferior. American's can thank their environmental policies for shutting down most of the foundries that produced cast steel and cast iron products. Almost every piece of machine shop and woodworking equipment comes from somewhere overseas. There are all kinds of offshore tractors with North American names on them. Case, New Holland, Deere, Cub Cadet.... just to name a few....See MoreNorth Caroline furniture/trip
Comments (8)One of the biggest advantages of going to especially FurnitureLand South is the size. They have just about every brand you can think of! We have made two trips there and you can easily spend a whole day going through the store. They also have a great little sandwich shop/restaurant in the store. 10 years ago we purchased a higher end master BR set and dining room set from them at a significant savings 50% over local!.. no tax, no shipping.. About 3 years ago when we were finishing building our current home we made 2 trips down.. 1 to look the 2nd to buy.. we had plans to purchase 7 rooms of furniture. (LR/DR/FR/MBR/KIT/DEN + Guest BR) We did not have a good expierience at FLS.. we got the rudest/least helpful salesperson and I didn't think their prices were that great. So we ended up looking at FLS all day.. then buying elsewhere. (many elsewheres!) It might have just been bad timing.. but my husband and I were just so annyoyed with this salesperson we moved on. Too bad about Boyles.. we purchased at Marge Carson DR there at a great price! We also ordered quite a bit of furniture from Elite in South Carolina. They had the best prices on many of the brands we were looking at. We purchased a BR set from Beechers(I think) in Indiana. We put together a list of the items we wanted then I just started shopping for price, but of couse would check out the business prior to purchasing. In some cases I saved 10-20% over FLS, which is significantly discounted from retail. Had no problems with any ordering except a 1 item was significantly delayed due to mfg. backorder. The fly drive option probably won't work because most items need to be ordered and will come in at different times. If I were doing it again(which hopefully we won't!) I would go back to NC, but do your homework before and after. If you do go, there is a nice little Inn we stayed at in High Point.. J.A Adams.. very nice place with a wonderful restaurant....See MoreMADE in America household goods?
Comments (53)As an environmental studies major (along with art history and studio art) dd just secured an internship to help source American made and free trade products. Here is a snippet from her proposal: "As an independent small business owner, my mother is rightly concerned with the longevity of her business and price point is a huge aspect of that. She fears that from a financial standpoint, she is incapable of selling more sustainable goods: they won't turn a high enough profit... ....Through this internship, I hope to gain a better understanding of the impacts that Americans have as consumers on the rest of the world both socially and environmentally. Through this understanding, I hope to develop an efficient and effective model for locating, securing, and marketing products that are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible by formulating a list of criteria that will be applicable to any sector of retail." I try to buy American home decor for the store when I can. As those of you in the South know, so many textile and furniture plants have closed in the last decade, it's time consuming and frustrating to buy responsibly. I am looking forward to her findings....See MoreAmerican Made, Quality Furniture Similar to Pottery Barn Trunk
Comments (6)Thank you Heather! I love your room from the picture. Yes, most of my case goods that weren't my grandmothers were Craigslist finds. They were often someone's parents' or grandparents' stuff and I got good deals on them. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck in finding upholstered items so far on Craigslist so I'm open to buying new since a quality reupholstering job is often fairly close in price to a mid-quality new. Love your idea about the Harris tweed fabric. Wish I had picked up a few yards when I was in Harris a few years ago. If only I had known at the time that my new husband didn't like the decor and furnishings I brought to the marriage. Oh well. I guess that may just mean, I need another trip to Scotland with a stop in Harris. ;)...See MoreElite Interiors & Furniture Gallery
