Lenovo's "malware" not just Lenovo's.

It's been found in a dozen or so apps, some pre-installed, others not.

Several, maybe many months ago, Microsoft suggest everyone disable SSL in the IE browsers because of the so called Man In The Middle exploits. They plan on disabling it whether the users like it or not in April with an update. I always uncheck it in my IE Advanced settings.

Think newer Firefox and Google Chrome have recently disabled it also.

I'm sure that security experts around the world are looking at every computer manufacturer right now for the same kind of stuff.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but one has to wonder what, if any, role the Chinese government and/or other Chinese businesses had in this. Certainly the folks at Lenovo knew that Superfish could do more than just place advertising. Lots of businesses and governments around the world buy Lenovo computers...

In the run line you might type in msinfo32 That will shou you ram and lots of other things too. Then also in the run line you might type eventvwr open the folder 'Custom View and click Administrator. You can look at double click errors there and they might have a how to fix it if you follow their links. Another thing for vista which is fairly easy is again in the run line copy past this in ; SFC /ScanNow that will search and fix any of the major system files that might be corrupt or missing.

PM2 - I just want to clarify that the reason my husband may not be able to get XP drivers for his laptop is not because Microsoft is not supporting XP. They continue to support XP and constantly issue new updates. The issue is that there might not be XP drivers that are compatible with other things in his laptop. Now I don't know enough to know what those things are - is it hardware on the laptop, other software they've installed that doesn't have XP drivers. I don't fully comprehend the problem, but it's not that Microsoft isn't supporting XP. I hope somebody more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to give prairiemoon2 incorrect information. I share your frustration that Microsoft would issue software that is so problematic that they even write documentation on ways to deal with the problems. I'm also frustrated when I have to get software fixes from other companies to deal with Microsoft problems. (I just had lots of trouble updating XP on an old computer of my daughters. The updates would not install - and nothing on Microsoft site - or from my computer tech guy's discussions with Microsoft turned up a solution. The solution came from third-party software - recommended to me here on this forum.) Lynn.

I keep hitting the touchpad with my wrist and when I first got my Lenovo and the keyboard always changes on its own from US Eng to Cdn multi and also when I skim the touchpad my page zooms. I have desensitized the touchpad and wish I could turn it off because I don't ever use it. I have gotten used to it though and can get right back to the way I was working, this touchpad is much larger on the Flex than it was on my old Thinkpad. That computer didn't haveX a number keypad and this one does so I am also typing off key haha because the keyboard isn't centered. Getting used to it though finally. Something just showed up on my taskbar and it was Lenovo Messenger for when Lenovo wants to send messages about upgrades, etc. At least that is what I think it is for. This Lenovo is so much lighter than my other one even though it is bigger because of the number keypad.

Malware on Lenovo PCs= non-issue for Lenovo PCs This was awhile ago and I think it was adware, not malware. The episode was over about as fast as it happened. The offending code was planted surreptitiously by a software partner, much to Lenovo's shock. It was promptly eliminated from the normal software loads and instructions were made available on how to remove it from machines it had been placed on. Lenovo makes great PCs and other products, have no reluctance to buy them.

My opinion on this is Nobody's the bad guy. Somebody just didn't know they created a security vulnerability by making the certificates. Everybody already should be aware that using WiFi in public locations has risks. We read about this man thats supposedly in the middle constantly.

SSL has been the problem, its a fairly recently discovered of its security flaw and since this discovery SSL has mostly been eliminated already with newer browsers.
