Ordering appliances online - who do you use?

I'm looking at AJ Madison and Goedeker's. Both offer free shipping and no sales tax. Prices are pretty similar, Goedeker's are a little better.

Does anyone have experience ordering from either of them? Any other good places online?

Order from the dealer that is closest to you geographically to limit freight damage and loading and offloading of you appliances on LTL trucks. Ask them if they crate there outgoing merchandise. Also find out if they strap there merchandise to pallets. Many companies will drop ship from there supplier and the box ends up going end over end ( depending on the weight of the appliances ) typically if the box ships on its side against the arrows you stand a chance of damage. These are the top two issues with goedeckers and AJ madison. The supplier ships the merchandise. They dont have anything in stock

I used AJ Madison for a set of Bosch washer/dryers about eight years ago. They arrived in good condition. I have had no issues with them.

Don't expect a lot of hand holding. As I recollect, I wasn't able to get updates on delivery for quite a while.

I also ordered a Marvel wine storage and bar refrigerator combo from AJ Madison. While they offered them on the website, there were none in stock in the warehouses. Madison had to order them to be manufactured. This took over three months. That was not their fault. After I placed the order and paid for them, I couldn't get any information about expected delivery time. They had no ability to give me updates. I had to get in touch with Marvel to get an ETA.

This was five years ago. Maybe things have changed. The Marvel unit arrived in good condition.

In conclusion, yes, I did get the products I bought. Once they were shipped, I was able to track their progress. The products arrived in good condition. No, on communication.

Cannadoit - Dottie wasn't accusing you of anything. The GardenWeb rules forbid mentioning any business by name, for any reason, under any circumstances. But things have relaxed a bit nowadays and no one seems to be monitoring things. Just don't be surprised if this thread gets pulled. They consider mentioning a company name as a form of advertising, regardless of the intent. As for seeds or plants - I used to shop everywhere online and couldn't wait to see that box waiting for me on the porch when I got home from work. But now that I've lived here for 9 years I know my way around better and can find just about anything I want locally. Even the hard to find obscure organic/heirloom vegetable seeds from Baker Creek are now available off the rack at my favorite downtown Raleigh Garden Center (Logan's). For mainstream summer annuals I shop at all the garden centers on the south side since that's where I live, with Bbs down in Sanford and Campbell Road on Tryon being favorites. For truly unique odd ball stuff I hit Plant Delights which is conveniently nearby. I have one favorite place I still shop at back in my home state of Oklahoma (Bustani Plant Farm) but I usually pick stuff up when I am home visiting relatives. I shop differently now than I did in the past. My garden is pretty full so now I seek out the plant online and look for sources. When I see something that I think will work for me (often from a thread here on Garden Web) I google the heck out of it and track down a source. I have splurged and bought seeds from all over the world that way. But I no longer have favorite seed or plant catalogs.

Sending additional divisions is fine, as long as one has enough of a given hosta to do so and it is economically feasible. However, some hostas, especially newer varieties, are in high demand, but even after 2 years in the garden may remain large, single divisions. Thunderbolt and Dream Queen are perfect examples, with 2 years growth in the garden, they will be thick, stocky single divisions with very good root systems. Obviously it's not possible to send 2 or 3 divisions for the price of one. Montana Aureomarginata is another example, as it's one of my favorite hostas, but very slow to gain size and add divisions. I routinely have divisions of this one that are 2-3 years old, almost 2 feet tall, but still single divisions with good roots. Oddly enough, Blue Mouse Ears is another variety that is quite slow to throw additional divisions. Most minis are prolific once they are established, but I have a bunch of these that will be 3 years old this spring, and last year I checked and found that these large, stocky single divisions all have roots that are profuse, thick, and up to 12 inches long. Some have 2 eyes, but not a one has put out a second division with it's own root system. Again, this is a situation where one would have to dig up and ship 2 or 3 entire plants in order to send extra divisions. On more common, prolific hostas, most reputable sellers will send multiple divisions, and root systems should be good. However, some of the better known nurseries routinely send a single division, and when you look at the Hosta Finder, the price listed is always for a single division. If you do mail order, always be sure you specifically ask what size plant will be shipped to avoid disappointments. Like most people, I prefer to buy my hostas in person, so I can see exactly what I'm getting. And I'm the sort of customer who does not hesitate to gently tip a hosta out of it's pot to check the root system before I buy a plant. You will too often find that large, lush "bargain" hostas sold by places that don't specialize in hostas will have very poor root systems in spite of having multiple divisions with profuse foliage. This generally indicates that the plants have been treated with a chemical such as DAP that forces heavy foliage growth, but at the expense of root growth. And it's the roots you are really buying, not the foliage. Finally, if you prefer not to receive any free plants with an order, by all means let the seller know. I think most sellers would be delighted not to waste a plant on a customer who doesn't want it.

I have ordered from them three times. Do not sign the delivery until you remove the wood frame. I had a dish washer delivered while I was gone. The delivery was to be between noon and four. They arrived at six while I was at the barn. They left the dishwasher outside the garage. As soon as I undid the wood casing you could see a forklift had pierced the dishwasher front control panel. Three months later an insurance adjuster asked to see the damaged unit. I had taken photos of the crate and damaged appliance along with the garbage men hauling the unit away. Just inspect your new appliance before signing any delivery papers.

Cross post on Appliance Forum. I thought I would follow up and let you know of my good experience with US Appliance. The salesman was helpful and polite and the order came within two weeks (had been told possibly three). Unfortunately, the washer was dented. I called and there were no problems at all with a return and reship. The reship was also delivered promptly. I would definitely order from them again. Oh, I am extremely happy with my new Speed Queen TL washing machine.

IMO (as a dealer) anyone who orders from AJ is very brave. If for no other reason than going by the yelp reviews. I have never seen a company with only 1.5 stars in any field of business. But they sell a ton of appliances nationwide so something has to be good about them, I am guessing price is the key with AJ

I'm sure one of the ways they keep down the price is by foregoing the number of salaries they'd have to pay for more customer service and the technology updates that would let them pass more info to the customer.

I have to admit for a prejudice for independent dealers. My dealer did a lot of research for me before I spent a penny. Research with the actual manufacturers' reps, well beyond what I could find online as a consumer. She then continued to advocate for me when I had some issues that need resolving. And that's with a significant contractor's discount (and, yes, they've been the go-to dealer for my contractor ever since). Besides the buying experience, however, there's also the fact that the dealer has a good repair fleet. One feels well taken care of from start to finish.

Not all independent dealers are that good, but many are. This one also has a significant online business. I don't know if their online business is equally good, but I feel better knowing that they're not just a boiler room and a warehouse. :) I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Eurostoves, because they have a giving and accessible online presence in the form of Trevor, as well as many glowing reviews from satisfied customers.
