Red Jade Plant 'Akai Jade'?
Comments (84)Looking at Mary's and then Rina's jades, the only one that looks any way different to me is Hummel's Ghost. As we see with Rina's variegated jades, which all are cuttings from the same original plant, it is clear that most other variegated jades are basically just that, variegated Crassula ovata - even Tricolor can have some leaves more ovate than others; on all variegated jades, some leaves will be more oblique, some more ovate, and all types of leaves can appear on all variegated jades; hence I conclude they are basically all the same. Because I know that Hummel's Ghost is said to have been a sport on Hummel's Sunset, I do hold that as different. All are beautiful, anyway, when not blighted by those brown marks some clones carry. There are other jades which are obviously distinct cultivars, including Maruba Nishiki, Denethor, Solana, When you look at them and then look again at the various variegated jades, you can see the Tricolor, Akai etc. are too alike to be separate named varieties....See MoreSunday morning bouquet: 6/25/17

Comments (13)Julia, BEAUTY IN MOTION is at its correct height of 26 inches. There are some taller ones nearby and they are tets, so the foliage is rather large compared to the dips. LBB has finally had a chance to settle in as I did not dig into it this past year (I would never let it get to clump strength as people always wanted a piece of it). Kay, If things stay true to form, I should have some BEAUTY IN MOTION available next Spring. Bud was quite secretive about his plants and seedlings. I've told this before, but he would not show me were he had SILOAM RALPH HENRY hidden as he was trying to hybridize with it. He rarely let his seedlings go to others. I believe that Margo Reed rescued a thin petaled purple daylily and it became a parent to, I believe, Planet Max. David...See MoreCBS Sunday Morning about bread...
Comments (18)I haven't noticed a shortage of Mozzarella, and I have been using a fair amount of it. We bought some on Saturday, along with some ciabatta bread, and I will make a sort of pizza with that - it's just easier and still very good. Kevin went to the store today to get more bread flour (I have plenty of rye and whole wheat), as I intend to continue baking our bread - now that I have a good supply of yeast. The stores do have bread on the shelves now, but the bread I get in Rancho Mirage is not as good as what I got in L.A., and it is certainly easy enough to bake my own. I actually enjoy making it, and I've decided that I like it even better when not using my Kitchenaid mixer. I mix pasta dough by hand also, and I plan to make some lasagna later this week. I'll have to roll it out with a rolling pin, however, and so I'll see how that goes. Considering how popular farmers' markets are in southern California, I do think people here are fairly health conscious - or at least are concerned with getting good produce. It's helpful that so much is grown here and therefore so readily available. And I do see mostly younger people (i.e. 20-something) at the farmers' markets. The Bristol Farms that I go to in Westchester is just a few blocks from Loyola Marymount University, and it has a huge selection of health foods, mainly for the students, I think....See MoreBama_Joe
