can I cook dried out greenbean seeds???

I did NOT get all of them picked at end of season... they were big and tought the pods.. Had so many

Dont need them for seding cause I have gobs now from what I bought... so can I cook the KyWonder and some "volunteers" seeds , the variety... and other varities that I saved the seeds from???/

so do I soak and cook like say dried pinto I buy from grocery ???

Sure you can. And your own dried beans will likely cook much quicker than store bought ones. It makes me wonder how old the beans I buy at the store are!

Sure, you can still use them. One of our new-to-us and now-a-favorite recipes for butternut squash is the Beef and Butternut Stew linked below. We were pleasantly surprised how well the squash held up to the long cooking time in the broth. That might work well with the ones you think are drying out. We've re-thought our garden plan and are planting more butternuts (we got 16 large Waltham's this year and only have five left) because we discovered they make a great substitute for sweet potatoes. How do I get rid of seeds from dried tomatoes?

I guess I got a little confused because elsewhere in this forum I read that you should remove the seeds when canning tomatoes for sauce because the seeds could make the sauce bitter. Is that because there is something different about sauce versus dried? No it is a matter of taste buds and maybe digestive tract and a bit of appearance as the seeds tend to turn black when dried. :) Many find seeds turn bitter in whatever tomato product they make - myself included - so a general guidelines removal is recommended. Other don't notice it. Some find the seeds irritating to the digestive tract so removal is also recommended for that reason. But I will say that the majority of the seeds are easy to remove before drying and no food mill is need, just your thumb. Just pop the center gel lump and seeds out after cutting the tomatoes. Leaves a few but the majority pop right out. Dave

I agree, Louise, I want beef rare. Really rare. gyr, you won't get any flack here either. I often pour a can of Coke or Dr. Pepper over a ham, and then glaze it during the last hour, some of my family likes the really sweet and crunchy outside edges. meyati, I also don't feel that good beef needs any "help", other than salt and pepper. My own ham was nice and moist, with a crunchy outside layer of brown sugar and mustard. I like pineapple but The Princess does not, so I didn't use that. We are having a LOT of leftovers, including some in today's bean soup. dcarch, I'm not a huge fan of ham either, it's definitely something I can take or leave, but the family loves the stuff. My ham wasn't cheaper, though. I bought a whole hog locally for $1.29 a pound, and that included packaging. Since packaging is usually about 50 cents a pound, that made my pig 79 cents a pound, based on hanging weight. However, anything I wanted smoked was an additional 99 cents a pound, so ham costs me nearly $1 a pound more than fresh pork does. Same with bacon. Annie

And yes, you should soak overnight and rinse before cooking, just like all dried lentils. Enjoy ! I just used my remaining saved beans of last season, so good especially knowing that I control how they are grown! Need to increase my bean area for this season, for sure.

"heck Hubby talked to a guy we know about green beans.. he said he did not blanched just washed and dried and sealed packages....and Froze

did dehydrate other veggies back in 2011 but no greenbeans...

I bought some spanish sounding or french ..while back from a salvage store ..It looked to be like the name had "green" In it like "verde" I think verde means "green " from high school days...

But yall know I tried planting some of my own saved "cherokee" beans before and nothing happened... they would have been organic ,too.

I even gave away some Chinese long bean pods.. I wish that person would have gotten back to me and let me know what happened..

Here in this old money pit acreage,have not tried them yet. Did so good with the Ky wonder and some bush varities.... Hubby got "greenbeaned out".. not me. ate them steamed every nite.now if I could do better on the onions....

Boy I so miss my own Organically grown green beans. Hope God Blesses Us again this year...

better get off and check my chickens and Hubby out in this blankey blank snow.....
