I'm watching the SNL preview show. Talked to a neighbor about what we watching on TV. She only caught Tina Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin and thought it was a news channel so she changed the channel. Tina Fey - you're impersonation of Tina Fey is so realistic it fooled my neighbor.

I've been watching it off and on. I never, ever thought I'd say this, but Miley Cyrus was terrific.

I have been watching off and on. Some things were really funny, others not so much.

Several others not so much. It had its funny parts, mostly the OLD skits!

I have it on. Loved the original 70's show. Land shark and all that from waaaaaay back when...

We are watching now.

It was great to see all of those great old clips, wasn't it? I could watch the sketches from 40, 30, and 20 years ago all night. I stopped watching religiously ages ago, but love the political humor from all but the most recent years. The writing and the talent just isn't there any more, in my opinion.

I'm sure that there was a great reunion behind the scenes but the program mostly fell flat for me. Eddie Murphy and his massive ego should have stayed home.

I remember having parties back in the 'olden days' and we'd have to have the TV on for SNL. I predict that Lorne Michaels pulls the plug in the near future....don't know why I have that feeling.

I taped it and will watch it later. I watched Downton Abbey and Grantchester.

They used to tape them down the street from where I used to live in Brooklyn at the old NBC studios on Ave. M, along with the David Letterman show years ago. I loved the old SNl, but I think I've outgrown the newer ones.

Alisande, I can't stand Miley Cyrus, we watched her and DH asked who she was....lol I thought she did a fine job last night.
I was wishing they'd show more of the old clips. Other than that made it til the last 10 minutes of the show and fell asleep. :(

DH and I thought it was fantastic - except for Kanye.
We laughed ourselves silly, and we even loved Miley's performance.

Oh, boy, LuAnn - I agree about Kanye. What the heck was that?!? And it was so long - far longer than any of the clips or other stuff. Awful. And we thought that poor Paul McCartney was terrible, although we love him. Maybe time to hang it up, Paul.

In general, the show was good. Not great. I agree with others - some hits, some misses. Underwhelming, I guess.

First, Shelgal, we used to be neighbors! I lived in that neighborhood about thirty years ago.

I was disappointed in what they chose to highlight. I would have liked to see a bit more of the old clips rather than just quick cameos. Why spend so much time on The Californians? Not that funny to start with.

Also, not sure why in a reunion show we really needed performances by Paul McCartney, etc. Would rather see more of the popular skits instead.

I was pleased that Miley dressed and acted respectful.

I enjoyed the show but wanted to see more of the old clips and characters. Had some good laughs though. I watched the show religiously for 30 years and then stopped watching and rarely watch SNL now. I could have done without the musical performances, and would have liked more comedy. haha seeing how the performers have aged made me realize I guess I have too.

Chevy Chase seemed like he had some issues....:(

My grown kids are visiting this weekend and I was looking forward to them seeing some clips that were a regular part of the shows I watched at their age. In trying to include so much, many clips were so short that there wasn't time to appreciate the humour. For example, they showed a very brief part of a 'Mr. Bill' clip, so I explained to my kids that this bit was a regular feature for a while, where Mr. Bill was always having 'accidents' usually caused by 'Mr. Hands' and the skits always ended with his high pitched voice squealing "Ohhh noooooooooo...." as he saw his fate about to unfold. Oh well, I guess you had to be there the first time.

We were underwhelmed too. The Californians skit was terrible and so was Paul McCartney (and I didn't think Paul could EVER be terrible). Miley Cyrus and Paul Simon were passable.

Our grown son was watching with us and we really wanted him to be able to appreciate how good the show was 20, 30 and 40 years ago. But of course, they didn't show those in any detail. I think they devoted 5 whole seconds to Steve Martin's King Tut, and I didn't see The Wild and Crazy Guys at all. Or the Coneheads. It was nice to see 15 seconds of Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley.

Kanye should stay home.

I wasn't crazy about The Californians either, and it dragged on and on. But then we were rewarded with the Betty White-Bradley Cooper kiss! Or at least Betty was rewarded. LOL

I guess that skit gave the writers the opportunity to bring in all sorts of famous faces. But I agree--the whole show would have been better with more of the old stuff.

Overall I think the show fell flat.....I was expecting it to be much better than it was. The good/funny moments were too few and far between. I would have liked to have seen the most memorable skits in their entirety, not quick clips. They trotted Eddie Murphy out but didn't show Buckwheat or Mr. Robinson? The live skits...Jeopardy, Californians, etc dragged on too long, but that seems to be the case with the regular show now too. A lot of unecessary and unfunny fluff where memory lane would have been more pleasing.

Perhaps Sir Paul was under the weather...I saw him on something else not long ago and he still sounded good. It was wonderful to NOT see Miley's body or tongue! Will Kanye, his wife and her sisters please just go away?!

Does anyone else remember the Claudine Longet Invitational skit from way back. That was hysterically funny. I watched SNL last night and enjoyed it although Paul McCartney and Paul Simon sure are old and Keith Richards is so unattractive. I turned on Downton and forgot to,go back to SNL. I hope they rerun it.

I agree with Littlebug's assessment -- Wild and Crazy Guys was one of the funniest skits over the years! Also, I would rather have seen the players in their original skits instead of guest stars impersonating them, say, Rosanne Rosanadana (I'm sure there were a lot more 'n's in there!). Taylor Swift and the rest of the "Californians" piece was blah -- did she not realize that when she covered her face with her hair, she couldn't be heard? I really did love those brief clips of the comedians cracking up spontaneously while doing their skits. One question: Do you think Lorne Michaels looked somewhat pained at the end, when they brought him up for a standing ovation? I understand that the 40-year mark isn't just professionally -- it hits your very own soul about how much older you are, and I wonder if it was a melancholy moment for him in that respect (in addition to seeing all the faces of people he's worked with -- hired, too -- who are now gone). One more thing: Maya Rudolph was fantastic as Beyonce -- and the giant fans that Beyonce actually uses in concert blowing Maya's co-comedian Martin Short nearly off the stage! ... Kanye, no. He couldn't even play his "annoyed" part right -- too much grinning, not enough angriness.

Oh -- and one more thing: Why would Miley perform a song that fellow guest Paul Simon is so well-known for singing? ("50 ways to leave your lover")

Paul Simon wrote the song, and my understand is Miley was paying tribute to him by singing it. As you probably know, he was on the show.
