Can anyone help me get a couple webpages hosted?
Comments (28)Grayentropy, I appreciate your offer very much. I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "never mind" LOL. Did you know I am talking about some other pages I need to be hosted, not that one that has already been hosted. I was using that one as an example of what I need to do with some other pages. Also, did you realize I'm talking about pages that will already be GardenWeb threads? I can email you HTML from view source (photo below of what I mean) or I can email you the Word document (doc) or I can paste from Word into Notepad if you prefer. You've all been very helpful and offering to get the pages hosted. Between what I imagined and the suggestions made, I really don't know the best route. Can you tell I'm on overload? Comments (10)DtD: I thought that I'd covered that in this section: "Desirable sizes are either "thumbnails" which some hosting sites provide, or something close to 640 X 480 pixels. "Medium" or "Small" varies from program to program, so don't rely on it. (see corunum/Jane's discussion in the previous thread)." I'll try to make it stronger in the next revision, probably using the 640 X 480 pixels size as a maximum (unless someone has a better suggestion). Of course, these are just recommendations, and people can't be forced to abide by them. I don't want to make the process onerous, I'd rather someone just get a photo posted for the first time even if it's really big, and then the next ones can be posted in a more suitable size. Once they're past that first hurdle of posting they can work on the details. Claire...See MoreHow to include photos in a post (revised 8/19/11)
Comments (7)That's an interesting observation, steve_mass; I suppose the aims of posting can be very different in other forums. In the Building a Home forum, people often want to be able to post a building plan with enough detail so they can read the dimensions (small text). It also may be their first post so Tiny Pic is often recommended by that forum as the easiest way to get photos online. In the New England forum a thread will often get long with photos posted by many people. One big photo will disrupt everything after it, making the whole thread difficult to read. Close detail isn't necessary, even for plant identification since the ID is likely to be more a case of identifying a species, not a specific cultivar (hostas can be very similar). Picasa is very popular here in New England, possibly because of the enthusiastic support of some of the regulars (as well as its many fine features before I get flamed). Including a pic in the message is the gold standard, but this is a pretty relaxed forum and I think people would rather see a link in the box than not see a pic at all. Comments (2)I've been running a thread on the Building a Home forum that substantially repeats this thread and refers to our FAQ. The issue of private versus public albums on Photobucket came up (I thought the whole album had to be public to allow you to link to it without a password). aa62579 says that you can link to a specific photo in a private album and that link will be visible. You just can't link to the whole private album and see it without a password. I've never used Photobucket so I'm asking the question of those of you who are familiar with sites such as Photobucket, Picasa, PictureTrail, etc.. Is this a general characteristic of all web-hosting sites? I'd like to add this information to the FAQ. Thanks, Claire...See MoreOaktown
