Scrappy, just to clarify further as this post is getting somewhat muddled: There is (1) "Sunrise" door, and the manufacturer (Sunrise) also offers a lower cost line called Essentials. The product that I recommend is the "Sunrise", not the Essentials. While I do consider the Sunrise door to be a very good product, it would be third on my list of those three that I mentioned earlier. It has a mechanically fastened (knock-down) frame as opposed to the welded frame on both the Okna and Softlite lines. In addition, it is below the other two in both thermal and structural performance ratings (U-value, air infiltration, etc). That said, it's ratings and quality are still in the upper echelon, hence my recommendation. Ultimately, factors such as installation quality and price should be given proper weight as well... If you are looking at the narrower side of the spectrum in terms of vinyl, the glass loss will be negligible. Do you have storm windows? If so, a narrow profile window will likely fell larger.

The Craftsman style is very simple but very traditional. The position of the sash and the screen track is important and a sub-sill is recommended. The usual design of vinyl windows makes it difficult to emulate a traditional Craftsman window. The sash thickness is often too narrow for applied mullions (SDL) and in- between-the-glass is often only option which does not have a traditional appearance. The sash of a vinyl window is often set toward the outside with a projecting screen track that doesn't looks more like a storm window than a traditional window. Its important to see the section details to determine the position of the sash and if the upper glass is narrower than the lower one. In any event you will probably find the glass of a vinyl window is smaller for a given frame size. I would be looking at Marvin Integrity wood-ultrex fiberglass windows if appearance and longevity (or color) were important and add an Azek Historic Sill or equivalent. Okna Jamb Integrity Jamb

The Okna 600 comes in both replacement and new construction., its a great window. I also like your other options such as soft lite LS or Elements and Sunrise. higher end vinyl will render the best performance numbers and will have an advantage over wood windows in that regard. The key is sticking to higher end vinyl and the brands we mentioned certainly meet that.
