Beautiful table. Honestly, because of its rustic nature, any kind of chair is going to look great with it.

I would stay away from wicker . Tends to not only be not terribly comfortable (IMO) but if one piece breaks, it mars the whole chair and it's expensive to repair.

Stick with no-risk, or low-risk chairs, IMO.

One chair, with arms, on each end and have a couple or armless chairs set aside to add when needed.

Beautiful table! I'm also looking for chairs and found these at World Market last week. They're quite comfortable and look very nice with a wide variety of styles I think. They price was right. About $150 for a pair. They are called Harper.

$150/pair is dirt cheap. But…are they well-enough made? and do they come in a style with arms for the end chairs? Maybe the OP doesn't care about that, though.

Well they're not fine furniture that's a given :) they are solid, don't wobble, and for the price point they work just fine for us. And they are very pretty. The stitching seems nice. It's just DH and I so they won't see a lot of abuse. I did not see any armchairs in that style.

Well, you certainly can't beat that price… so long as they don't fall apart on you!

If that style appeals, I would concur with tannatonk on those chairs. I bought a pair of those in a linen color from world market while they were on sale several months ago. There appeared to be 2 dye lots at the store but they let me look through them for 2 that matched. The mgr was helping me and even took off a bit for a very small scratch on one of the legs (that I later touched up with a dark marker). Mine were about 110/pr...couldn't beat that anywhere, and they're very comfortable and holding up well so far. I have other wood chairs with geometric linen color & white upholstered seats that go well with the WM chairs.

I personally find the IKEA Henriksdal chairs very comfortable and sturdy. Their floor length slip cover can easily washed.

Of course, you could also go even more modern, i.e. ghost chair, molded plastic, or the French bistro chairs, or cane chairs, painted or unpainted, or leather; or maybe even one side with a settee/sofa; or painted windsor chairs

Bestyears, I love the new table (but I loved your old table too). I remember the pic you posted of your beautiful slips for those chairs when you first made them. I hope they find a new home.

I second the henriksdale chairs from Ikea. We have/had them and they've been great. I always meant to order the urban covers from Bemz to cover them, but never did. Might do it now that I can redecorate.

We have a couple of the Ikea chairs too for when extra seating is needed. Bought the Bemz Belgium linen slipcoverscovers...Here's a pic of the back.

Wow, ask and you shall receive! We have both an IKEA and a terrific World Market, and of course Target all nearby. The price points are excellent. Looks like I'll be making a field trip this week.

In answer to questions:

1. Yes the sofa is going, LOL -today as a matter of fact.

2. I loved the old table too, and did not want to get rid of it, but for awhile it's been too small. Even six people around it was a bit uncomfortable. That table was an English drawer leaf table, and so I now have it in it's square size, at the end of my sofa in the family room, and I love it! Holds a lamp I needed at that end of the sofa, and even gives us a place to play a game or do a puzzle.

3. The ultra modern 'ghost' chairs and others are probably comfortable but they just look so darn uncomfortable to me that I can never wrap my head around them.

4. The chairs with the covers that I made for them will be in reserve. I only plan to keep six chair around this table, but will be able to pull up to four of these out when we have more than six guests.

It's funny I didn't mention tufted because when I was out and about and saw them a few days ago, I instantly thought, "Ooooh!" So now I'm thinking what might be kind of nice would be either 4 of the tufted World Market or Target chairs or 4 of the IKEA chairs, with two armed/upholstered chairs at the ends. Since I can sew/upholster/slipcover, I've been watching CL, but haven't found the right ones yet....

Lots of good choices for chairs--- but I just wanted to comment that I love your table! What a great CL find. Our local CL is either wildly overpriced, or junk.

Lovely table and you got some great ideas! I might have to borrow some....I also just bought a table off craiglist and am struggling to find the perfect chairs. My problem is my table is trestle with "x" legs and there is not a lot of room for chair legs between the base. Ugh!

I Love your slipcoverd chairs that you are replacing, can I ask what kind of chair is under there?

Another suggestion for your table is maybe modern style Windsor chairs with nice upholstered host/hostess chairs at the end. Good luck!

I would go online and look at the dining chairs section at Carrington Court Direct (carringtoncourtdirect.com). They also have host chairs in that section. The prices are dirt cheap for fully custom, and I believe would be more durable than the sources you are considering. They also will use customer's own fabric. Google this source + gardenweb for reviews. I learned about this source from GW but have never used them as have my own chairs already.

Bestyears, you're in Houston? So am I. I've been wanting to get some forum members in the area together so need to start my own thread re: this. But getting back to your DR project, could you post another photo? The one in your initial post is very dark. I can't even determine the color of the walls.

Personally I am a big fan of French Bistro chairs but if this seems expensive to you then you can get molded chairs with an eye soothing colour like ivory or beige.
