Clean up the posts/forums

There are a good number of posts on this site that are thinly disguised advertisements. It is made clear that the Gardenweb Forums have a strict no advertising policy in the rules.
It is also obvious that some forums have not had much if any posting or interest given to them for quite a while.

You might get more traffic on the site if it were gone through and cleaned up a bit - deleting the duplicated posts, posts of business owners that include links to their websites, and the forums that no one seems interested in. Or maybe a little consolidating - do you really need 10 forums for roses?

I rarely if ever come to this site anymore - it seems to attract a number of people that are looking for freebies or are just plain ungrateful after taking the time to answer their questions.

I don't apologize for this being so negative, this used to be a wonderful website, but from my experience through the years it has only deteriorated to the point where I have given up trying.

I found using the "flag" to indicate spam to be very effective.

Think the "like" choice is a nice addition.

Agree, consolidating some of the categories would be helpful.

I agree. I signed up on Gardenweb a few months ago to try and get some information. I'm amazed at the number of redundant, moribund forums that are available, I started to count them and gave up when I discovered the dozens of sub forums that are embedded in the main list. I think it's a detriment not an advantage. So many of the super specialized forums have almost no activity. Fewer forums with more traffic in each one would actually provide more interest and information for the plants that are currently consigned to anonymity. I won't keep track of dozens of forums, even if I'm interested in many of the plants that have one dedicated to them. In a more general forum people with broad gardening interests would see the obscure posts and might participate but when they are buried in the long lists of specialized forums they just get ignored.

I wouldn't use towels or cloths you intend to launder. I'd use disposable ones you could seal up and toss in the trash. Normally I'm against throw-away stuff, but for cleaning up potential lead-contaminated dust, I wouldn't want to clean those rags in my washer, nor would it be ethical to take them to a commercial laundromat and leave any residue for the next unsuspecting user. I'd do physical removal first before running the HEPA air filter. No point in contaminating your vac or a HEPA machine with stuff you may be able to remove, permanently. After you washed and dried any surfaces that can take it, then get the machine going to clean out any remaining dust particles in the air. And don't shake mops or dust cloths outside your home as that will just contaminate the soil underneath where you track it back in again, or ruin it for growing food. Molly~

I can warmly recommend the Miele brand of HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners as the best I've ever used, and by far the cleanest vis-a-vis blowing any dust back out as you vacuum. They make various levels of filter bags - worked great for drywall-sanding dust, which is so fine and dreadfully mobile.

Ohhh. Let me try that. Well, I still couldn't do it from PB, but I was able to download it directly. But it's gihugic. I feel like an idiot with all this. Luckily my kitchen has been done for a long time, and I had already done a bathroom reveal several months ago, so I probably don't "need" to post photos. But I'd like the option. And the post was "too long", (so refused) probably because the pic was too big. I give up.

The blanket is a microplush blanket, 100% polyester. As I mentioned before, all of the bedding needs to be washed daily---including pillows. Pillows do not wash well and do not dry quickly to be reused that night, so my intention with these blankets is to make quillows (blanket/comforters that fold up into a self-pocket that forms a pillow). Then I can just unfold and launder more easily. I do think a lot of the cold water recommendations are just to play it safe and avoid any liability on the part of the manufacturer for laundering issues. I have successfully washed a lot of clothing that is marked dry clean only. Regarding the dust mite issue, I do have a product that will destroy the dust mites at lower water temperatures, although I do prefer using a higher water temperature when allowed.

Agree that the forums desperately need to be consolidated. I mean -- we have a square foot gardening and a small gardening; a four season vegetable gardening (but no "vegetable" gardening?); a "Metro NY Gardning" which has NO posts; a "giant vegetables" forum? it's a mess.

Is this a legacy of a time when Gardenweb was more like the old fashioned internet bulletin board and anyone could create a forum so the number of forums multiplied with no rhyme or reason? Another great example, as was pointed out on another post in this forum, why is there a "growing tomatoes" forum? Why not just "tomatoes"? Who, wanting to find information about tomatoes, would think to look under the letter G to find it?

And the three fish forums could probably be merged into one better subject.
