Recommend decking for Chicago rooftop deck
Comments (20)Perfect, makes sense now. Looking around at my neighbors to see what they are doing since 2 are building decks right now. One is running 2x4 stringers flat sitting on little pink foam pads and the other is setting crazy thick stone tiles on bison deck supports. Your way sounds the most solid, though. For screws, do I need to go with 1 5/8" SS screws? I'd like to use the brown headcotes because the smartbit looks pretty idiotproof for a guy like me, but I understand that these are only in 2 1/2" lengths? I'm worried about screwing into the roof with the 2 1/2" screws at the lower spots. Then again I'm worried that the 1 5/8" might not be long enough if I end up going with 5/4 ipe (plus I'd have to use 2 bits for the drill/countersink unless theres some other tool out there). 2" seems like it would be perfect but I've never seen the pros on here discussing any 2" SS screws. Any recommendations? I don't want to plug, just facescrew flush with colored screw heads to blend in....See MoreTile store recommendations for San Jose area
Comments (32)Got my brazilian cherry at wholewood, too. Victor is quite nice. They do tend to spam craigslist a little bit, but it all seems legit. Be careful, though...his prices do change, so this is one area where it's worth it to order more than you might need. Also, get the entire list of wood you need from your contractor. My guy was not at all organized when it came to the stairs, so I had to keep going back and forth with Victor as to how many risers and whatever other little parts they need to build stairs, and there was no bargaining room by then. if anyone wants to work with a chinese cabinetmaker in south san francisco, you can try Gao's Group. I think they have a website. I pushed them, and they got my cabinets done in just over 4 weeks. of course, now I've been in for 9 months, and there are still a few little things left, but he did get the important stuff done when I needed it! They actually make the cabinets, I believe, and definitely have staff who speak english. They were also 20-30% less than Precision cabinets from Brentwood, partly because they'll give a discount for cash. I got my floor tile/slate at Terico tile (absolutely love that place - I'm not one to need 10,000 choices, so this actually worked for me), and my backsplashes at Bedrosians, with some Terico, Unitile, and some Oakland place mixed in, while looking for my granite....See MoreSofa help- pottery barn vs Ethan Allen vs other Nyc furniture store??

I don’t know if you like leather, but I have both Nicoletti and Chateaux d’Ax leather sectionals purchased at Bloomingdales and love them both. Comments (25)Based on my observations, I'd grade the following brands like this: LOW (AVOID!) - interior define - arhaus - rh (overpriced crap!) - Crate and barrel - pottery barn - west elm MID (mass-produced but still pretty good) - Cisco - Lee - Sherrill - Taylor King - Charles Stewart - Chaddock - Wesley Hall HIGH (ONLY A HANDFUL OF COMPANIES DO IT RIGHT THESE DAYS) - Hickory Chair - Hendricks Fine Furniture - Century - Hancock & Moore - Seatly.com (my company, made-to-measure sofas made in North Carolina but exclusively invite-only to maintain highest quality standards) I would look out for the following: - Kiln dried hardwood: won't warp - Mortise and tenon joinery: strongest joinery - Eightway handtie: suspension system that will last forever - Sinuous springs with molded caps in the back: Great back support that won't squeke - Foam on the out-arms, top-arm, in-arms: you won't feel wood on the arms when sitting down - Spring down cushions: Most durable and comfortable cushion (won't "pancake" overtime) All these combined together will ensure that you will have a sofa that will last a LIFETIME....See MoreUser
