Feedback needed on new bed for guest room/DS's room
Comments (35)With weighing everyone's input, I'm now thinking maybe I should just go ahead with a room update that would satisfy both his needs for part time use of the room over the college years plus my need for a guest room. Another factor driving the update sooner rather than later, is I know we will have several guests coming in May, both for DS's graduation and my DH's 50th birthday and the closer it gets to May, the busier I will get with party planning. There will be an opportunity in February to paint while he is away for 3-days at a tournament, then when he returns it is winter break so he would have some time to help me put his room back together and be part of the changes. That way, he will be included in the plans. He is away right now until Friday at a retreat so I haven't had a chance yet to run my ideas by him, but I will when he gets back. Main issue with the mahogany bed is it doesn't really go well with his existing furniture so I've been thinking about what I can/should add to make it look more cohesive without breaking the bank. Once he is out of school I don't think he will need such a large desk and hutch plus I do own another very similar one in DD1's room and DD2 has a smaller vintage kneehole desk which I really like as it has great storage space without a lot of room. Offhand, I have a single mahogany nightstand which I can replace his with: I'm now thinking perhaps I should just replace his desk/hutch will a smaller vintage kneehole type one so that he would have a place to work on his laptop when he is staying with us. When searching for DD2 last year I found a lot and here is one listed on CL for only $50: What do you think? While these pieces may not be his first choice for his room, I feel it would allow for more growth during the transition of this room into serving dual functions over the next several years. Long term, my mom has promised to give me my grandmother's mahogany secretary and I can see that working well at some future point when DS no longer lives with us and most likely would replace the desk. As for paint, I was thinking a soft grey or pale blue. He is very fond of blue, but I find these walls too dark. I can get him a blue comforter and keep the present rug for now; then get another set of bedding to use when guests visit....See MoreRethinking king size bed for master- anyone regret their queen?
Comments (66)If you have the room for it King is always better! But just keep in mind its always harder to downsize once you’re used to it. we upgraded from Queen to King when I was pregnant with my second kid.. i was already feeling cramped with one kid kicking me.. fast forward to now Ive separated/divorced and I let ex hubby keep King bed but i got myself a Cal King out of wanting to keep the space i was used to and my littlest still bed sharing… my current home has small bedrooms and i am now considering downgrading to a queen to have more room in my master bedroom, but i dont want to give up all the room.. wish i didnt get used to it now, because my bed takes up most of the room 😭...See MoreTwin bed into King - guest room dilemma
Comments (28)Thanks for all the input. While I know my parents would be OKAY if they HAD to sleep apart, since they use the guest room the majority of the time, I would rather make them more comfortable and let them sleep together. They spend at least one weekend a month here, and often more. Hubby and I have been married for 12 years, and while we would not prefer to sleep apart, I guess we would if we HAD to. Though like someone else mentioned, we'd more than likely just cram ourselves into one twin...which would not be an easy feat since I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and hubby is 6ft2in and 260 lbs! I guess I am trying to be more accommodating to the less often guests (which is probably silly since they ARE less often...) - my MIL and SIL who absolutely REFUSE to share a bed, so SIL ends up on the living room couch which is very disruptive to our family, as we (especially our kids) are early morning risers and she is not. Or for when my single brothers come and visit with their girlfriends, and my conservative house rules indicate you can not sleep together here unless you are married. So brothers get one room and their girlfriends get somewhere else. It could be awkward to make either one of them share a single bed. Thanks for posting the inspiration pic. I'm glad to see you guys think that would work because I think that is the direction we will head. Since it seems like a relatively easy DIY project, we can size it so it fits the two beds and two small nightstands, which could either go in between the twins or outside the "king." I am not sure if we could fit XL twins in that room. I'll have to look at the dimensions. I was thinking we could turn the mattresses to fit the king dimensions, but that wouldn't work unless we had a separate king bed frame, which isnt going to happen. I do plan on buying that foam filler insert thing as well as a nice plush mattress pad to top the two and hopefully hold them together. Now I get to obsess over colors :) I will definitely post pics when done, though it will be a while. This is a new build that HOPEFULLY will be breaking ground later next month....See MoreTwin vs Twin XL for Guest Bed and/or Master
Comments (4)Recommend Twin XL. Twin-XL size is only 5 inches in length longer than the standard twin. But 5 inches will be important for a comfortable sleep. No one will like to sleep with legs up in the air....See Moreaputernut
