CFox, re: conflicting things After the foliage turns to yellow you can cut it off and ditch the old soil. Yellow foliage is the sign it's finished its job of providing nutrients to the bulb via photosynthesis process. It needs to be in the sun while the foliage is still green to be able to do this. If you have it out of sunlight for the bloom to last longer, when that is dying, cut the bloom off, place the pot in sunlight until the leaves turn yellow or eventually brown. You could wait until leaves go brown and then cut/pull them off and repot. OR, to make things more confusing, you could wait until August to repot. There is another option which I've only read about. That is removing the hyacinths from the soil/pot (after foliage has yellowed/browned/died) and storing the bulbs until the proper time to pot up. I don't know the timing of this method. I do know bulbs stored in the refrigerator (not freezer!) must not have certain fruits (apples) in the fridge at the same time. The ethelene gas given off will destroy the flower bud. I thought hyacinths needed more winter chill than we get here in the warm end of zone 9. I am thrilled they don't. I use 3 gallon and larger pots so I don't have to repot every year. Lazy. Valentine's Day was a topping for my Birtday Cake from Feb.1. Such excitement was in the air as we all trouped off to country school with our precious red cargo in hand. Breathing with anticipation and excitement, we took our places in those wiggly old wooden desks. Now it was a waiting game until teacher said "yes, you may deliver your Valentines now." Atop each desk could be seen Valentine boxes, created from a discarded cereal box or a trophy shoe box. Laces and ribbons and paper hearts adorned them and each had a large slit in the top, just in case a super large card should appear. Mom and Dad had proclaimed we needed to be nice and considerate and give each classmate a Valentine, even though we didn't especially like them. Done! As we rested fom our disturbtion errands we received cupcakes( made by Mothers) and hot cocoa, a very special treat. No matter that the hot cocoa tasted a tiny bit scorched for Miss Lee had attempted to process it atop a kerosense burner which was nearly impossible to control and almost always burned things! It was a super, duper Party and then us kids all trudged home through rough, icy snowbanks nearly as tall as we. Dad had made a narrow path for us to follow. We also carried a treasure of a card made for "Mother and Father" (wonder if Mom and Dad knew them?) and signed in our perfect Palmer Method handwriting. At the dining room table we compared and shared our treasures with one another. What a day for a ten year old to put in her "Memory Box".

No problem, Ci_lantro! When I typed the recipe, there were spaces between items. g-web doesn't like the way I do my recipes, I guess. Sometimes they don't even like spaces between lines when I post a comment. The flavor is great. Even without it being made with my grandmother's home made applesauce, it still is one of the recipes that tastes like I remember it as a kid. Grandma had a small orchard that had mostly Jonathon and McIntosh apples in it. She always left the peel on the apples when she cooked them for sauce, and it was always PINK applesauce. She never canned it, just froze it. To this day, I don't like most store bought applesauce. It just doesn't taste right. And if I find one I do like, the next time I buy it, it doesn't taste the same. Tami
