I like your yellow night stand because there is yellow in your duvet. But I do not like the yellow vase on top....too much yellow. Yes, a white rod with white sheers. Or go another way....a black wrought iron lamp on the night stand and a black wrought iron curtain rod with white sheers. For some reason, I want to say yellow curtains but I think it would be hard to get the color right to go with your walls (which are beautiful) so I would go with white and maybe get a yellow throw to put over the bottom of your bed.

Thank you for ideas. I totally agree with the vase. BTW that vase is just one that I happened to have in my closet too, and the room was looking too bare so I put it in there with some existing flowers. I can paint that vase with chalk paint or something to change the colour. :)

My niece has this same bedding in her dorm room. Her curtains are Pottery Barn thin white linen. The headboard is a dull turquoise. Your nightstand might look good painted a grayed down turquoise, like the headboard.

I'd go with a room darkening roller shade which will disappear when rolled up....you can put a shade pull on it for ease of use. Then I'd put a valance over top.

There's one valance I love that I never got a chance to use...maybe it's to feminine for you, but I like it...maybe something similar but less frilly?

I agree on using white panels, and think a white rod would work well since the headboard is white. Have you considered the idea of putting the bed under the window since the window is rather high? I'm not sure if that would fit in your room, but if it would, then the panels would frame the window and bed like the one pictured.

At times in a guest room one might tend to go somewhat neutral gender, but I think yours is really pretty and like the yellow nightstand. If you aren't concerned about it being too feminine, I happened to see these panels on overstock.com that reminded me of Annie's suggestion, but slightly less frilly. You could put a white blind or lined bamboo shade for privacy. Ikea, as already mentioned, is another good place to find inexpensive curtains.

Btw, I'd do that smocked panel in a pretty sheer or lace or gauzeâ¦but I'd do panels, not a valance, and let the guest see that there is a shade that can be pulled down, as well as not having to reach under a valance to do so. The roller shades have enough of a shabby chic look that they'll work just fine in that room; no need to hide it. And they're making really nice roller shades now anyway, maybe one with the chain on the side that raises and lowers the shade, so that can be hidden behind a panel, rather than that plastic clip that goes in the middle.

I love what you've done with the room and the yellow nightstand looks great. I agree with changing the vase. I would do the black iron curtain rods with white sheers and then incorporate a black iron lamp as another poster suggested. Very cozy room!

I love your yellow nightstand...it really works well in the room. What isn't working for me is the color of the window trim, which makes the window look small. I'd paint the trim white and it will give the illusion of a larger window. I like the idea of sheer panels but I'd use a wood rod and paint it to match the window trim. And then add faux wood blinds, the 2" variety.

Agree with sag re: painting the window trim white. I'd leave it simple, though, just the sheers and a shade for darkness at night. And actually, since it's a gliding window, you might want to have two shades so guests can have an open window with air coming in if they want.

The nightstand is perfect with the bedding.

I'd keep the window simple--white trim with crisp white tab-top curtains. Add a pillow in the same fabric, and replace the yellow vase with a periwinkle-blue bowl.

Bad news. I am pretty sure that I cannot paint the trim. That is not even real wood but this strange fake stuff that I doubt paint would even adhere to!! This house had cheap finishings when I bought it. One day I need to change the trim in the entire house (baseboards and casings and doors etc.) - but I do not have the money right now so that project is (sadly) on hold for now.

Scarlett, I'm sure you can paint the trim. If laminate can be painted, surely anything can be painted. It will take prep work to get the paint to adhere, but I'll bet it can be done.

Nevertheless, if you are going to put up panels, so little of the frame will show, that I doubt it would be worth the trouble to paint.

Here is my niece's dorm room. Sister mixed coral, turquoise and sage green with it - successfully, I think. Out of sight, are the curtains. She used white Cameron cotton curtains from PB, which are currently one sale if you are interested. (ignore ugly throw. It is Niece's "blankie". Not stylish, but it gives her comfort away from home)
