Comments (149)Shirley, I am so terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. You and your family are in my prayers. Melinda, Fran, and Sassy, thanks for catching those woopsies. I've done it a few times in my recipes too. Dianne, your daylily is beautiful and the Riverwalk is so peaceful looking. How lucky you are to have that near you! Thank you everyone for all the wonderful recipes! I am so excited and proud of everyone for all their contributions! This is a great bunch of people and I can't wait to get the finished product out to all of you who made this possible. Sassy, I wanted to say a special thank you to you sweetie. Comments (26)I read Kitchen Confidential. It was good, but I found the two Ruth Reichl books I read much more interesting. I don't know whether to like or dislike Bourdain as a person, because I don't know him, other than having read one of his books, but he does come across as arrogant. He's funny, though. I tried to like his show, The Taste, when it was first on last year, but it seemed way too much about the judges and not enough about the contestants or their cooking. That being said, I didn't make it past the opening rounds. I guess I've wondered way off topic now. Sorry. Sally...See MoreLOOKING for: 'More With Less' Menonite Cookbook
Comments (11)Susieque - I have the set of World Community Cookbooks .... I didn't find the Baked Oatmeal in "More-with-less", but in "Simply in Season", I hope it's the one you're looking for. Baked Oatmeal This recipe can be prepared quickly in the morning by mixing the dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately the night before. Combine and pop in the oven as soon as you get up. Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator and can be reheated in the microwave in individual bowls. 2 cups/500 ml rolled oats 1/3 cup/75 ml brown sugar 1 tsp baking powder 1/3 cup/75 ml raisins 3 T chopped walnuts --Combine in a medium bowl. 1 cup/250 ml milk 1/2 cup/125 ml applesauce 2 T oil 1 egg, beaten --Combine in a separate bowl. Add to oat mixture; stir well. Pour into a greased 8x8-inch/2L baking pan. Bake in preheated oven at 350F/180C for 25 minutes. Serve warm with milk. Cindy...See MoreBugs in my pantry! How to get rid of?
Comments (17)If this is the first time you've seen bugs in your pantry, there's always the possibility you have used the product before the bugs hatched. You wouldn't have seen the eggs in any dry product such as flour, cake mix, rice, cereals which need cooking such as oatmeal, etc. I don't 'get' how this starts in the first place, but i've seen weevils(tiny brown bugs)in an unopened bag of flour as well as cake mixes that i've had past the experation date. Makes me wonder if the experation date is a 'ploy' to hide the eggs before they're hatched and the bugs become visible. Quality control in a processing plant, even with government 'regulations', doesn't make me feel at ease as there's always something that's being recalled. Sad but true....See Morellucy
