Tiny bugs in soil. What are they and how can I get rid of them?
Comments (2)As I posted in your other thread, a general guide is that fast moving isn't a plant pest whereas slow moving may be. Beyond that, allow the potting mix to dry off a tad more....See Morewhat are these bugs and how do I get rid of them
Comments (5)I agree that they are red aphids and they are sucking the good from the plants. A forceful spray with cold water helps or try insecticidal soap. Mix with water as per package instructions and spray the plant. The soap will also kill any eggs and it is completely safe. Then watch to see if you've missed any....See MoreNeed help to get rid of bugs on my apple tree
Comments (2)If your trees are small, it is easy to pick them off. Do it in the evening as they are more sluggish at that time. You can then drown them in a bucket of soapy water. Basically they are foliage feeders and will feed on the younger leaves. For severe outbreaks on older and taller trees, many insecticides work. I am told Sevin really works well on them. I use Imidan on my fruit trees and was spraying every 14 days over the summer. Imidan worked well but by day 12 or 13 more were back and feeding so I always knew when the insecticide was wearing off. They seem to prefer my grapevines and sweet cherries over apple trees. However some of my apples had them. Amazing that some apple varieties must be preferred as Honeycrisp got hit the worst and some varieties were not touched at all....See MoreGetting rid of mosquitoes without getting rid of your good bugs
Comments (17)I used to use the Avon SSS on both myself and my show animals! They do make one that has sunscreen and bug repellent in it but I haven't been able to get it at the flea markets anymore. I tried a natural spray on repellent from Tractor Supply but I swear when I got to the garden to start working I was attracting all kinds of wasps including the black and white ones that bite really bad so I never used it since. I am very sensitive to Deet so I have to use the lowest content which doesn't last very long. I also noticed several years ago that I was burning the plants in my big pots by the door when I sprayed down at the landing before going out. So I go out further away from the flowers before spraying but I see the tips of the grass are now burnt there too. I tried to sit out for a few minutes last evening to watch the sky to see if we had any bats but I got bitten so bad I scratched for over an hour even with alcohol rub and antiitch cream. We have a large creek (anyone from somewhere else would call it a river) right in front of the house. I bet that repellent clothing isn't cheap and how long would it last if you washed it?...See MoreSherry8aNorthAL
