A fascinating friend, a superwoman, just gifted me 50 lbs of food!

Pork, turkey, chicken, salmon, heavy cream -------, all organic and free ranged.

Superwoman? A single mom home schools her two children, single handedly runs a farm. Cows, goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs, bee hives, produces ---- bread maker, candle maker, soap maker, wine brewer, cheese maker -------------

Oh yes, thatÃ¯Â¿Â½s free ranged organic salmon she sent me. She caught the salmon from Alaska.

I made (sous vided) salmon in oregano (home grown), Meyer lemon (home grown), cream (from her cow) sauce.

The salmon was extra delicious because it was seasoned with love of friendship.

Aliceg8 - Marie Callendar's is pretty good. I grew up on Swanson Pot Pies (with enough pepper it wasn't too bad) Here's the recipe as I copied it down (can't remember from where - guess I need more fruits, veggies & fish in my diet right Digit?). I usually just use this as a guide and put however many veggies I feel like (usually more taters & carrots) I'll note changes in parenthesis Chicken & Dumplings 2-1/2 to 3 lbs chicken thighs (can also use a whole chicken) 5 c water 4 red potatoes cut in sixths (I like yellow taters since they're not as waxy but still hold together) 3 carrots, cut in sixths (can use baby carrots) 2 celery stalks, cut in sixths 1 onion, cut in eighths 10 oz frozen peas (or fresh added right before adding dumplings) S&P to taste (I add garlic powder, a couple of bay leaves, fresh or dried rosemary, sage, lemon thyme (or poultry seasoning) to taste since I think it's a little bland with just salt and pepper) In a large stockpot cover chicken with 5 c of water, (I add seasonings at this point); cover and boil on medium heat until tender, about 50-60 mins. Skim fat (optional (-:). Remove chicken, let sit until cool enough to handle. Remove skin and shred chicken. Return to broth. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook 20 mins. (*note - fresh herbs can be finely chopped, or left whole and removed before adding dumplings) Dumplings 1-1/2 c flour 2 tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp salt 3 Tbsp butter (I use margarine) 3/4 c milk 1/4 fresh parsley (optional) Sift flour, baking powder & salt, cut in butter/margarine. Stir in milk and parsley. Drop into hot stew. Cook uncovered 10 mins, then cover and cook 8-10 mins until dumplings are done. Hope you like it. Even with 5 of us, there is enough for leftovers, just add more water to thin the broth some, heat to a boil and make more dumplings.

Also meant to mention (and you can google this) - why did Russia ban microwave ovens. So I did and here is what I found. There was no law that banned microwave ovens in the old Soviet Union, William Kopp made this up for his article many years ago. Several debunkers have trawled the USSR legal code without success trying to find the law - or the law that repealed it during perestroika. One argument goes that if even the Soviets banned microwave ovens, and we all know how evil the Soviets were, then surely microwave ovens must be bad. It is in the same boat as the allegation that the Nazis invented microwave ovens. They didn't (if they had cavity magnetrons available, they would have done what the British did and built accurate high frequency radar sets). Evil inventors developing something that even the evil Soviet empire had to ban, how effective that is as anti microwave oven propaganda. The question is valid given the sheer bulk of comment on the internet, but the simple truth is that microwave ovens were not banned in the old USSR. Urban Myth. No evidence whatsoever to support it.

How about some soups? It would be a pretty smooth texture but a little differnt than say baby food or a drink. If you get your son to eat macaroni and other noodles, there are tons of possibilities like spaghetti and other noodle dishes~maybe even some of the kinds that come in a pack. If he likes pancakes~try French Toast. My DS is 2 1/2 and LOVES it and he calls it sticky toast. I suppose the syrup is his favorite but we don'[t load it on. DS also liked some lunch meats~especially ham. I don't know if you'll have a meat eater on your hands or not but our DS just doesn't like to eat much of most meats but LOVES ham and most times roast beef. I guess in general you could just give him bits and pieces of things you're eating and see what he likes. We did that a lot when DS was younger. Just be sure that if one of you don't like something, you don't let the child know that. Keep a straight face. Most kids will eat hot and spicy stuff and not say anything but learn that it's hot from adults, same with sour stuff. Good luck! Once they start eating more adult food it becomes easier to prepare them food and to go somewhere. :-) ~Leslie~

Hi Marti, I found "our" question answered...see link :( Many people have asked this... A. I found this on that Stove Bright website. Looks like we all should start shopping for a new unit : Q: My (oven/gas range/electric range/stovetop) has a glossy porcelain coating which I want to recoat. Will your high-temp paint meet my needs? A: No one, to our knowledge, makes such a paint coating. Our high-temp paint product, Stove Bright, is designed to withstand very high temps on woodstoves, steampipes, boilers, etc., but it is not a "porcelain" type product and will not stand up to the demands required of a porcelainized cooking unit. It is not glossy, so food and grease would stick to it and it would not clean up very easily (it is not FDA approved for food contact either). Appliance paint would provide the desired glossiness but probably won't stand up to the heat requirements. There is no good alternative. Reporcelainizing or electro-static epoxy recoating are alternatives (check your Yellow Pages), but have heat limitations around the burners. There has been some success with powder coating (especially the darker colors) but you would have to disassemble your stove for processing. The relative merits of attempting to recoat an older cooking unit (an expensive process) should be compared to the cost of replacing the cooking unit. Time to burn another receipt, I need to order a fridge :( so Mr. Magic stays for now. He roasted chicken wings tonight so looks aside he's not too bad !!! My first thought was that it was Annie too.

I'm sure she was thinking who else would honor my food like DC does. She can enjoy it virtually.

I was another one thinking you were talking about Annie, then again, my friend Lourae has always been that type of woman. Your friend, Annie and Lourae are awesome women and I know you are appreciative.

Thank you very much everyone.

I have a lot to be thankful for. I am thankful for people like my friend and Annie, who are always so inspirational, who are so talented and hard working, giving and yet still so humble.

My friend just told me she bought a welding machine for herself!

I am in awe. Of you, of her, of Annie, of Ann T, of so many here. How does she do it? I turn out one successful boule and I feel as though I've surmounted Mt. Everest. One of DH's fishing trips was to Alaska--in the eighties. He phoned me before he got on the plane to tell me that I needed to purchase a deep freeze and have it in place when he got home that night. It is difficult to find an appliance vendor who will deliver the same day, but I managed to do it. That freezer was filled with salmon and halibut. The same freezer is in my laundry room right now. Filled with flours. And batteries.
