I use a dermaroller! Although I'm not as good about it as I should be. I have two different lengths -- a shorter one that is meant to help product absorption but which doesn't pierce deeply enough to promote new collagen growth and another longer one which supposedly does promote collagen growth. The shorter one is not bad at all and I think it does improve my skin texture. The longer one I've only used a couple of times so I'm not sure. It does hurt a bit! I think you are only supposed to use the longer one every 6-8 weeks, to allow time for collagen production between use. I use the shorter one before applying vitamin c serum or retin-a. Whenever I use them though, I think of how strange it is.

Tina, I find the derma roller just leaves my skin fresher looking. It's hard to explain but you can find a lot of info with a search and Youtube videos. After having used it recently, DD (who also uses one) commented on my skin (in a good way:)) while visiting her. Last night I noted a cluster of three pimple like thingies (WTH at my age??) and used the derma roller on them before going to bed. This morning they are almost gone.

Many medispas are now using derma rollers/microneedling. I sometimes use a numbing cream which is very effective and allows for a more aggressive treatment. However, I don't care for the numbing sensation so don't use it every time.

I'm getting ready to order a short derma roller actually. I watched some videos a few weeks back and decided to try it. I've also been reading up on LED lights for your face and am trying to figure out which brand I want to purchase. All of a sudden I feel like my face is changing faster than it should be. I may purposely put on weight as I age to help fill out my face. I never thought I'd really mind the aging process, but apparently always assumed I would age well.

I just got a derma roller recently and have used it three times so far. I haven't noticed any differences yet. I am using it every other day. I'm thinking it must be the one with the shorter points? It's a little uncomfortable but not super painful. The instructions that came with mine said not to roll it over acne, in order to prevent bacteria from being spread around the face . After I use it, I put vitamin C with hyaluronuc acid on my face.

If you don't mind my asking, what exactly does a dermaroller do? Does it leave bloody holes all over your face? And if it doesn't actually pentrate the skin, how is it supposed to improve the absorption of skin products?

No, it doesn't leave bloody holes all over your face. It does penetrate the skin. But they are microneedles, so just some redness for a short time. They allow for deeper penetration of products. There is much information about them online if you want to know more.

Someone mentioned this website on my thread, and it has a pretty good explanation of dermarollers. I was advised to consult a dermatologist for my skin concerns, and I would definitely recommend you do so for this product.

Just reading about the dermaroller hurts. I know it's something I won't try but I would love to know where you all purchase HA?

I purchased a 1.00 micro needle roller and the HA serum about a year ago and have used it less than a dozen times. The first time I tried it I was very timid and it didn't really do a thing. The next time I got a little more aggressive and so on. I do it just enough to redden up the skin so the HA can absorb. I'd like to think it helps, but I don't do it as often as I thought I would or as often as I could/should. I make sure and sanitize it by dipping in alcohol so that it doesn't infect the skin. I've never been to a dermatologist for my skin so this is an inexpensive do-at-home process.

I spent a chunk of time last night reading about this...as skeeved out as I am... and am surprised to see how few negative comments I've seen about it, either in scientific based research articles or in reviews from users.

My big concern would be, that it allows so much absorption of what you put on your skin after using, what is best to be absorbed? Certainly not a lot of chemicals with toxicity. So what does anyone use, or where do they go to find it?

I think a lot of people use it with vitamin c serum and retin-a. That's all I use it for. I agree you wouldn't want to put anything toxic on your skin after dermarolling .
