Win 7 to Win 8 Upgrade Offer
Comments (22)AZ, I understand what you are saying, but Emma makes a lot of sense. If users are not prepared for progress we would all still be using Commodores or in the least Win3.1. We have a whole bunch of Dell XP SP2 systems in our building. Six in our office alone. Ours are going to be replaced by a governmental entity due to security, non-MS software demand, and future anticipated expansion. You can bet many of the other offices will have to replace their systems via their budget as their offices have systems integrated for use with our data. And, we did survive without a burp when we switched from Win98 and Win2000 to WinXP. Bobbie, Hope you are sitting down. You know how I was dragged kicking and screaming into the post Win98 era as I loved my Win98 system. And, yes you know I love my Vista system even more and have defended it for all the bad publicity it received. My plans right now is to buy a entry to mid-level laptop with W8 just so I can play. See why I said I hope you were sitting down. Even though I think there is way too much going on now with the Internet, and can only guess as to what the future will bring we users have a choice. Be part of it or allow it to pass us by. Do I think everyone with a W7 should race out and purchase a W8? Of course not. However, two generations of O/S behind could become the future limit. Comments (8)Win 7 Antispyware 2012, Vista Antivirus 2012, and XP Security 2012 are all names for the same rogue anti-spyware program. This family of rogues is promoted in two ways. The first is through the use of fake online antivirus scanners that state that your computer is infected and then prompt you to download a file that will install the infection. The other method are hacked web sites that attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in programs that you are running on your computer to install the infection without your knowledge or permission. Regardless of how it is installed, once it is running on your computer it will install itself as a variety of different program names and graphical user interfaces depending on the version of Windows that is running. Regardless of the name, though, they are all ultimately the same program with just a different skin on it. I provided a self help link, but strongly recommend a malware removal forum lkie Landzdown. Here is a link that might be useful: removal/remove...See MoreWin 7 Ultimate activation issue
Comments (10)Are you reloading this after wiping the drive or is this something new you have bought? Check the label on the DVD to see if it is an upgrade and not a full or OEM version. Originally Microsoft allowed Windows 7 upgrades to be installed over themselves to qualify on the assumption that the person owned a previous full or OEM version. That police seems to have changed now as I tried it last week and came unstuck. Which means I now have to install XP, activate, then install as a clean install my Windows 7 operating system....See MoreNeed to buy new computer - where to begin?
Comments (10)Jennifer, I would have been here sooner but I had to eat my way through the M&Ms. My new system is 2 months old now and as anyone here who knows me I was dragged into the 21st centtury kicking and screaming. The old system, a HP 400mhz P2 WIN98 OE suited me for what I was doing. It was just the learning curve getting wider and wider. I spent a lot of time researching purveyors and manufacturers. I finally decided on a dual core Vista HP a6040n DVD +/- RW 2 gigs ram with a 17" flat screen monitor for around $1100.00 at Best Buy. I dumped the included trial Norton and installed AVG. The system has everything I need and more. I'm not a gamer either and I have no regrets. I was searching for a double drive system when I was advised that with the current software only one was necessary. No outward saving to the HD they told me. They were right. In actuality if you are copying a disk with Roxio 9 you 1: Insert the original in the drive, 2: Utilize the software, 3: When notified remove the original disk and replace it with a blank disk and 4: Click to finish. Nothing to it. Even I can do it. I am not certain if your version of Word will work on Vista. However, I am now using Open Office (Word compatible) without any concern. Whatever you get I am certain you will enjoy it greatly. Good Luck! Da...See MoreElmer J Fudd
