Please critique lighting plan(s)...
Comments (6)I'm not a fan of 4" LV voltage for general lighting, but they are great for task lighting because the MR16 lamp that they use gives great control. I would suggest that you consider 5" cans with 75par30 "soft Par" lamps for the general lighting. I would also suggest that there is too many down cans in the dining room. Instead , put 2 4" LV at each end of the table, on a separate switch, to highlight your place settings. Then put 3-4" LV cans 15" off the wall to highlight the fireplace and art wall. This will provide pleasant indirect light into the room and bring your eyes to anything hanging on the wall The trim you select is all important. I would suggest a black baffle if price is a consideration, or clear alzak if good lighting is realy important. Please do not use white bafflesas, while they blend in with the ceiling when the lights are off, they become "glare bombs" when the lights are being used....See MorePlease critique my initial kitchen plans
Comments (6)I'd be tempted to move the range to the pots and pans drawer location...giving you more prep space between sink and range. Seating at the island may be a little tight...you may want to make the island eating side a bit narrower. It should still be okay for drinks...and you have the table. Have you considered a banquette against the windows? It looks a little tight there, too. Also, how low are those windows? It might be safer to have the banquette there, too...especially with a separate dining room for larger gatherings :)...See MoreCritique my kitchen plan please.
Comments (12)Yeah - I think you need to change the prep sink to be the one between the fridge and the cooktop. Clean up should be the one in front of the windows - that way you will have clearly segregated prep / cooking / clean up areas and much more functions. Try "making" a meal. moving your fresh foods out of the fridge to the prep sink on the other side of the room, while moving right past a sink that is in line / order / on the way to the cooktop seems counterintuitive. I realize that with the uppers near the fridge - you want to put dishes in them and that is why the clean up area makes sense there -but I totally see you taking stuff out of the fridge, or trying to grab some cream to add to a sauce on the cooktop and tripping over the open DW while hubby is trying to clean up the dirty prep dishes. Maybe add drawers to the left of the (current) prep sink and put the DW on the right... I also see that the window placement is driving some of the decisions - that kitchen will be fabulously light filled (awesome) but it does make layout tricky. The only other option would be to try to move the fridge over to the right side somewhere if you wanted to keep that sink prep. But I'd change them - there's an awesome amount of prep space between the left side sink and the cooktop. My KD told me long ago that that real estate is the most valuable in a kitchen. I did not pay close attention. I curse myself every day.......See MoreEmpty Nester Floor Plan ~ Please Critique
Comments (0)We are working on a one level floor plan which will have a daylight finished basement. The main level will have the master bedroom and a guest suite. There will be an additional bedroom, bathroom and family room in the lower level/basement. The house will have 10 ft ceilings with a 12 ft coffered ceiling in the Great Room. We would love any comments or suggestions on this floor plan in regard to flow and efficient use of space. Some of our concerns are: -. Should the Great Room be enlarged? It seems that the edge of the island (which will have stools) is pretty close to the great room and also worried that the distance from the island to the fireplace is too short. The fireplace wall with have built in cabinetry which will stick out 2 ft from the wall,. The distance from the edge of the island to the fireplace wall is 20 ft. The distance from the back kitchen counter with the cooktop to the fireplace wall is 28 ft. - Is the Master bath and adequate size? - Do the Master closets appear to be adequate size? - I feel like the Master bedroom doorway is a little close to the the foyer but can't figure out how to add a little hallway without adding a lot of square footage. - Please comment on any other suggestions regarding general flow and efficient use of space. Thank you so much for your input!...See Morechicagoans
