starling exclusion on feeder

Starlings have taken to mobbing my wife's feeder. This causes her distress.

I'm thinking about trying to exclude the starlings while allowing the blue jays, red headed wood peckers, cardinals and the little birds like titmice, finches: yadda yadda yadda.

Feeder is cylindrical with 6" diameter trough at base I'm thinking of a 1" chicken wire cage 8" diameter spaced maybe an inch from the trough.
I've read that:
1) starlings can't get through 1" chicken wire very easily.
2) Jays can reach with longer necks to access food through a wire excluder, but I dunno bout the length of blue jay necks for that so called reach.
3) dunno about cardinals and red headed woodpeckers ability to reach

Any info would be appreciated.
