I grow it, but can't answer all you questions because I grow it in a pot. In fall I plant it in my vegetable patch and in the spring I dig it out so its roots are disturbed twice a year. Its substance is good enough, say better than PUC but not thick, and it looks good all year. FP greens up some after spring.

Purchased in 2012 as a tiny TC. Ours is in sun all day long in zone 5b. Considering it was just a planted in 2012, I think it grows pretty well. I'm hoping 2015 is its leap year :)

Kathy, thanks for the complement. I didn't get very many pictures of hosta this year. Both of my favorite nieces have new babies...

Vanessa, your pictures show a nice progression. It's nice to know up front weather your gold hosta starts gold and goes toward green or visa versa. Here is my spring picture, shortly after being potted up.

Here's mine in September of '14. Planted it in '12, also as a tiny TC. Really hasn't grown much but I do see some progress. Sometimes when they're planted that tiny they take a couple/three years before going through a sudden, great growth spurt. Hoping '15 will be that year.

I really like the shape and color of this plant and think I may have to bite the bullet and order it. The progressive seasonal photos are especially helpful. Thanks for sharing the photos it really helps to see it in others gardens and not just pics on a vendors website.

For me it is a rapid grower (Berlin, Germany). It takes a good portion even of mid-day-sun and stays yellow the whole season.

Bennie, the midday sun in Berlin, Germany, has much less intensity than all of the US. Berlin is 52.5 degrees latitude, NY City is 40.6. That's why your hosta can take the sun.

Climate changes even here. 35ðC in summer is not an exception any longer. 20 years ago no one could imagine that this will happen in future. :-)
My problem is the low rainfall...

Bev, I've never seen your Frisian Pride before, and that picture above is really great. Not simply the hosta, which looks so healthy, but the choice of container and the companion.

I think I know what the companion plant is, but refresh my mind please? Is it Irish moss or something? I'm hoping it can grow here. If not, I have something similar I can try. I mean, after all the big pots I have in the garden, some companions (besides weeds) will be a welcome distraction.

Mocc, Its a sedum. It would do well for you. I don't know which one as it was a pass-a-long plant. It does OK in shade, although it doesn't really bloom. I had to pull it back several times so that it wouldn't overwhelm the hosta.
