Traingle Palm looks sick...HELP!!!

I have a 1yr old triangle palm planted outside. I live in Florida. Recently some of the leaves have started to yellow and some have brown spots forming. I have attached a few pics. I am really not familiar with palms as I have recently relocated from upstate NY. Please help! I wanna save this tree.

Are you sure that is a Triangle Palm (Dypsis). It kinda looks like a Hyophorbe (Spindle species). But I have confused these two in the past, so you may be right. You have provided no zonal information. Florida is a BIG state with a lot of variation in the winter between the north and the south. How cold has it gotten by you? (Triangles are more cold hardy than Spindles, btw.) What is the soil like? Has rain been decent? If the palm came from a lowlight environment and then went out into full sun, that can bleach the older leaves. Otherwise, I am clueless on this one.

I live in central Florida on the east coast. I'm not 100%sure it's a triangle palm, it just looks alot like others I've seen that I know are triangle palms. I bought it a yr ago when it was much smaller. It has been chilly, but y no means cold. The coldest day so far was like mid 40's in the morning. Soil is the usual Florida sandy mix, I did add some potting soil when I planted it. Rain has been fine, it gets watered twice a week and has been in full sun since it's been planted

My husband stopped taking Levaquin a week ago and hasn't had an appetite since. He's been in the ER twice this week for treatment of nausea and/or vomiting. He saw an acupuncturist, who treated him w/ needles once, and gave him herbs, but the herbs nauseate him. Food nauseates him. Smells nauseate him. He thinks he'll never be able to eat again. I can't offer him anything because the thought of food nauseates him. When he thinks about tea or even water, he gets nauseated. He just took Zofran (ondansetrol, an anti-nauseant for heavy-duty nausea, as in cancer chemotherapy, e.g.). We'll see what happens. Compazine tabs and Phenergan suppositories haven't really helped, or help only during the day, not at night when he lies down. I think half the problem is emotional. He's used to being very active and healthy, and now he's without energy and feeks cold all the time - that's another thing, in the past, eating turned him into a furnace, and now that he isn't eating, he's cold. He's almost at the end of his rope, and I can't see that there's anything I can do. I read through all the posts and I don't see anything in them that addresses this situation. It is unlikely, but possible, he still has an infection, as he never finished the course of antibiotics, and that a lingering or even spreading infection is contributing to this, but he doesn't have any obvious signs of infectin. He sees the doctor on Tuesday. The doctor should be able to determine if infection is still a problem. Wish I could slip him an anti-anxiety drug/herb to get his mind off this; I think a lot of it is emotional; he hasn't lost any weight, although he looks thinner to me, and is moving like an old man; he's only 66. He is very thin anyway and is normally highly energetic, but not now. He will try things other people suggest, but what I suggest.

I'd take it back to the nursery and ask them what is wrong. I have one in a pot, and it did fine all winter (our winters are mild), but it got really sunburnt when the summer sun started. I moved it in the shade under a palm tree. It gets hit by sprinkler water, and filtered sun, and it seems very happy now. It's actually putting out new leaves. I started pineapple guava from seed, and they are all doing fine in the same semi shade area of the yard. Good luck! Suzi

No, it's not dormant. If you're going to do it inside, now would be fine, as long as it's not too cold on the floor (assuming the pot will sit on the floor.) If there's a solid pancake of roots at the bottom, slicing a lot of that off will help keep it growing well. You may need something a little more sturdy/strong than scissors. Table covers for birthday parties are easy to find for $1-2, probably worth it to make cleanup as easy as picking that up, dumping it off outside. Can be folded & saved for next time you repot something.

Hello Again Friends, Hey Gary, I don't think anyone has captured my addiction and sickness as well as you have. You are so right my friend, I would love to be living in the Tropics somewhere and I am trying in earnest to get my backyard to resemble it. Definitely a Hyophorbe verschaffeltii (Spindle palm)Ã¢ÂÂ¦ they always look yellowy, but that is excessively yellowÃ¢ÂÂ¦ They do NOT like cold (though mid-40s is not super coldÃ¢ÂÂ¦ certainly colder than they prefer, though). And maybe a bit lacking in nitrogen. May also not be used to sun yet.

They are SUPER SENSITIVE TO SUN if not acclimated to it. Yes, I know they can grow in full sun, but if it went from a shaded position to sun, it most definitely is sun burned. Should grow out of it. I overwinter mine in the basement under lights, when I move them outside, they are first in full shade for a couple of weeks. Other palms also will burn if not acclimated first, but these are really bad for rapid transitions to full sun. Been there, done that,

Hyophorbes are NOT cold tolerant at all. They also sun burn very readily if not acclimated. Otherwise, they are EASY and are not bad house palm selections...even in the North.

I hope your palm gets out of its funk. Perhaps MiracleGro at half strength will help. DO resist the urge to heavily fertilize. That would likely kill your Palm.
