Southern exposure plants?

Tried in Gesneriad forum with no luck, may as well try on here...

Is there any blooming plants other than cacti and geraniums that can take full-blown southern exposure?

Our new house (in Richmond, VA) is one of those long rectangular ones in a city block, with only north and south sides exposed to the outside world. To say that the front of the building is sunny is an understatement. You could probably bake eggs on those windowsills during the summer.
We've got a flat-leafed cereus, a lemon tree (whose new growth droops ominously during mid-day) and a geranium out there now..
