Although I bought his book on the Wives of Henry VIII I admit that I haven't read it yet.
I didn't know anything about him-and of course now wish I knew less!
I love (belatedly) learning about English history and will look for his programs if they are shown here.

I remember a few years ago watching the shows narrated by Sharma? and felt that he had added a certain slant to the events...but then I suppose most historians bring certain preferences and prejudices to any account of earlier times. For me a perfect example are the books pro & con about Richard III.

One can only wonder with all the books on the market about events of the past 8 or 10 years how history will be viewed 100 years from now!

I wonder if, in a 100 years time and assuming history books are still being written, much space will be given to the host of academic poseurs that were seen on our TV screens in the early twenty first century.
Pat if you would have preferred to know less about Dr Starkey be thankful the Telegraph article left out large chunks of the private life he is more than happy to share with the public (rent boys on Hampstead Heath etc). If he were in 'straight relationships' these prurient facts would never be brought up and the interviewers could concentrate on his bad temper, his rudeness . . . and his historical research.

I'm also unhappy about Schama who seems to think that England is Britain and vice-versa! Any Scot, Welsh(wo)man or Irish(wo)man would pelt him with rotten tomatoes for this - at very least. I won't watch him.
