I have been several times to Munro's in Victoria, BC, Canada. The building is beautiful and spacious. Many, many books.

Would love to visit Leaky's in Scotland, the little van in Portugal and The Book Barge in any of its ports of call.

I have been several times to The Village Bookshop just north of Cleveland, Ohio, on Granville Road. It, too, is located in an old church, and is filled with rooms upon rooms of remaindered (discontinued) books. You could wander there for hours.

And I meant to post this before -- I found a used bookstore called Reader's Paradise! It is located on Route 38 on the outskirts of Butler, Pennsylvania. It is not such an unusual store, but deserves mention due to its name.

The only unusual thing about our nearest bookshop is that it is for sale.
A wonderful opportunity for someone with the readies, I think ã150,000 for shop and living accommodation above. If only I was about 50 years younger with no other ties I would snap it up. The trouble is, if I were to run it I probably wouldn't actually allow any of the customers to buy the books.

veer, it would be a dream come true to buy that bookshop.

My favorite is neither small nor particularly charming but it does have character and appeal. Plus tons of books both new and used. The Strand in New York City is the one place I must go everytime I get to the city. Sadly, I confess that I often walk past other shops because I know The Strand will be cheaper.

I rather like The Hickory Stick Bookshop, in Washington, CT. It's one of the few independent bookstores left within driving distance of that area.

Artemis, Washington, CT is such a beautiful little town. I went to a wonderful outdoor wedding in the 60's in a charming old white farmhouse that at the time was next door to the property of writer William Styron. The owners were artists. There is, sadly, a lack of independent bookstores now in the Eastern US, and I miss them!

I'm sad to say that most of the independent, interesting book store in the Los Angeles area closed when Borders and Barnes and Noble came in -- the small stores couldn't meet the prices.

City Lights in San Francisco is one of my favorites, although I'm not sure if it is still there.

There is a wonderful bookstore in St. Louis in the states -- it's Hammond's Books on Cherokee Street. I will post a photo and some reviews of it later. It's a dream. Also, I confess -- owner is a family member but if you went there, you'd agree with me.

I remember reading this article almost a year ago. I hope it's true.
