Mitford Series

Has anyone read the latest book in the Mitford Series? It is Somewhere Safe with Someone Good. I find it harder to read than the rest of them. The author, Jan Karon shifts to another character and just says "she" or "he" and doesn't let you know who it is. I love the series but this one leaves me confused, of course that is easy to do at my age.

I'm hurrying as fast as i can! Not quite half way through - Nynaeve has just gotten Lan's bond from Myrelle. As i read, i'm finding that there are parts of it that i barely remember, almost as if i hadn't read it. Weird. And other parts i remember well. And i've been going to the computer more and more for theories and speculations - names on the Black Ajah list, where the darkfriends are, is Verin Black Ajah? We now know she is, but in the thread i read, everyone said she couldn't be! This was from a few years ago, though. Anyway, enough posting and more reading!

I've read the Father Tim series and the Ladies of Covington series as well. Good easy reads. Another of the same sort is the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross. If you are a quilter the Elm Creek series by Jennifer Chiavirini (sp??) is good too.

I have read and enjoyed many of the books mentioned here. I wonder if the James Herriot series, "All Creatures Great and Small", "All Things Bright and Beautiful", etc., might be included in this group? If you don't know of them, they are about a vet's life in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940's. The stories include life at Skeldale House (the home of the vet where Herriot begins his practice), the local pubs and their patrons, as well as the stories of the villagers and farmers whose animals Herriot cares for. Truly wonderful writing, and a marvelous way to get to the Yorkshires.

Vee, basically this series is about the life of a minister/priest and his family that takes place in a small southern town. I would describe the series as "gentle reads." No violence, rather tepid in style. I read a few many years ago, then I found them so predictable that I stopped keeping up with the series. They are very popular with some folks, not the younger set, however.

Thank you Mary. I have now checked on the UK Amazon site and found some very similar comments.

Sorry I had computer problems and have been busy fixing it. As wood says it is about a priest and how he cares for his parish and neighbors. I loved the one about the recluse who lived near him. On his walks he hears great organ music coming from his home and would stand near the fence and listen. Later he found a bench there as if the recluse knew he was there and inviting him to sit awhile. He saved a boy whose parents were neglecting him and is now trying to save his brothers. He marries at the age of 60 and can't believe he found a woman who could love him. I think it is a very nice read.
