Speaking of books....

Who has read Jan Karon's "Mitford" series, about the older priest, Father Tim, and his hometown friends and happenings? I just finished a second one, and have to say, a couple of the best I've ever read! A lot of humor, excitement and love.

I'd LOVE to live in Mitford, a place where nothing happens but your occasional dog-napping, thievering, and finding strangers in your attic. The description of scenery is wonderful.If only we could create such a community in the real world. I haven't read all of them but several.

I've added some titles to my TBR list. The tightrope walker novel sounds intriguing! Thanks, mwoods! Yikes, Betsy, I don't think I can keep more than two books going at once. I've only been reading mysteries for the last couple of years, but don't think I'd enjoy the thriller mysteries...some day I'll give one a try. These might be too light-hearted for you, but have you read the Chet & Bernie mysteries by Spencer Quinn? The author's real name is Peter Abrahams who has written several thrillers. Chet is a K-9 police dog drop-out and Bernie is his owner who is a private investigator. The story is told through the eyes of Chet. It was refreshing to read a book about a dog who doesn't die in the end! Tibs, how great to have access to old books. I like them, too. There's a few good used book stores here that are a great resource for older ones. It also seems that some of the old books are being reprinted - the old Betsy Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace, and Beverley Nichols gardening books, for example. Anneliese, great score on the books! I hope you find a place for them. Opening those boxes will be like opening a treasure chest! Shilty, those authors are popular with my "Girls' Night Out" group. My husband and I listened to a book on tape during a long car trip...Grisham's The Testament, I think. The narrator did such a good job that I looked him up online. Unfortunately, he was severely injured in a motorcycle accident and has been unable to work since then. He apparently narrated for Stephen King, also.

Hi, thanks. So do you think its enough if I put some food in the ground next spring? Like I said, I didn't put anything in the ground in the fall,,,,just covered everything with mulch (leaves, dry grass, etc.)

Well, I'm in my book club primarily for the socializing! I would read books anyway. I enjoy the social aspect of discussing books with others, and I really like the women in my group. I realized one day that while I had garden friends, and sewing friends, and friends I used to work with, I knew almost no one who lived the same town as me, despite having lived there for 18 years. I knew that the mother of one of my daughter's friends was in a book club, and asked her if they were taking new members. The rest is history, and I'm having a whale of a time. I'm even reading books I'd otherwise never have encountered on my own. Some I like, some I do not, but it does expand my horizons.

Does anyone know how many there are in the series? I get large print from the library, and they don't always have all of everything.

I've read the Father Tim series and the Ladies of Covington series as well. Good easy reads. Another of the same sort is the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross. If you are a quilter the Elm Creek series by Jennifer Chiavirini (sp??) is good too.

Who is the author of the Ladies of Covington series? I have read 6 or 7 of the Mitford series (the last one I know of is the Christmas Nativity one)
