1960's England-slightly OT.

For the Brits here (and others) --- On vacation, I just happened to catch part of "Call the Midwife", which I had never seen. I found it to be powerful and, in a sense, shocking. My question is: is this a true portrait of how things were with women in the UK at that time? Or are the issues a bit exaggerated? I ask because in the early 60's, I was traveling extensively in England and Scotland. I never picked up on the "backstory" as it were. What are your thoughts on the issues presented in this series?
