July 15 St Swithun's Day

You are probably familiar with various old bits of weather lore and in Great Britain, if it rains today it is said it will rain for the next 40 days.

As it has already been the wettest summer since the last wettest summer and in most areas of our green and soggy land it has been damp for many weeks, with flooding and even loss of life, I wonder if any of you remember, or believe, any of these old sayings.

Perhaps you just keep a piece of sea-weed nailed onto the back door frame or observe which way your goldfish are swimming in their bowl before you decide to carry your umbrella to work. Maybe you live in a country with an accurate weather forecasting system.

Last year after weeks of drought and unusual heat I swore a Solemn Oath that I would never again complain about the weather so please regard the above as just the sharing of thoughts and information.

And it has been pouring since early this morning.
