I have not, but it is on my rather loose TBR kept in my head. NPR did an interview with him recently and I caught a bit of it and it piqued my interest as Diaz seemed to have a nice, laid-back way about him. Have you read it?

bookmom - No, I haven't read it yet. I saw a brief clip on Diaz on TV; he seemed humbled by the award and genuinely surprised to have won. According to the list of his work, he has written for the New Yorker, the Paris Review and other magazines. He also had a book of short stories published called "Drown" which was critically acclaimed.
Maybe someone at RP who has read him will pop in with a description of his style or a short review.

Sorry, the name of the author is Junot Diaz, not Oscar Diaz.

I tried to read it, but it just didn't grab me. I intend to try again one of these days.

I was surprised to find this book sitting on the front display table at the library, just waiting for me. It's not the kind of book I would normally read, but I'll give it a try. I already have a long list of words and phrases to ask my DR friend. She will probably laugh herself silly as I think most of them are swear words.

siobahn - looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this book. In the video clip Diaz spoke about living in DR, and then moving stateside with his family when he was a youngster. He found the local library to be a haven, although he could not admit to his friends that he was a reader. When he got to college he said to himself,"These are my people!"
