JMG le Clézio, Nobel Prize for literature 2008

The French author Jean-Marie Le ClÃ©zio was awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize for literature yesterday. One of his first books was Le ProcÃ¨s-verbal which was a sensation when it came out in 1963. I read the Swedish translation in 1964 but didn't like it well enough to continue reading his works. I remember the book as claustrophobic. I was perhaps too young in 1964 so I'll probably reread my old copy to see if my opinion has changed.

Most critics seem to agree that his later books are even better but I don't know any of them. Opinions anyone?

Quite frankly, most Americans have never even heard of this author, myself included. I heard the announcement on the radio yesterday. Thehe announcer mentioned that few of his books have been translated into English. I did a quick search on Amazon and did not see any English translations of his books. There are Americans who read fiction in languages other than English, but there not very many of us.
