Thanks Kenn, this is my third year with the Blues and they have never left the general area of my yard and the neighbors yards before when feeding the fledglings. These parents are now carrying the worms a good 1/4 to 1/2 mile away!! Only the parents are coming to eat not any fledglings, they will be 2 weeks out of the nestbox tomorrow. I had a talk with mom and dad twice today about this. As they came to check out the dishes, they will sit and wait for me to fill them if they are empty - sitting about 15 ft from me, I told them I wouldn't keep filling up the dishes for them unless they bring their babies for me to see. LOL! So far it didn't work. The first week they did just keep them in the trees in our yard, this week NOT. We have five acres but they are across a huge field now in a different small wooded area with lots of power lines around. I am sure they are teaching them hunting skills but you would think they would let them come to the feeder. It is almost like they don't want them to see the feeder and get free food. rosiequilts, I lost 50 pounds last year by calorie counting, which is just another way of saying "eating-loads-of-fruits-&-veggies-so-you-can-eat-the-most-food-with-the-fewest-calories". I learned to love vegetables! A pile of eggplant, onions, mushrooms & peppers with a little spaghetti sauce on just 2 oz. of pasta & 1/4 cup grated mozzarella is delicious & filling. Spaghetti squash can be substituted for the pasta (just put the spaghetti squash whole in a crock pot & it's done in 4-6 hours). For salads, I love to mix spinach, lettuce, diced raw green beans, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes and use 1/3 cup dried cranberries for dressing, or sometimes green olives and a little of the olive juice in the jar. If fresh produce isn't on hand, then combining frozen veggies & cooking in the microwave is tasty: kale, lima beans & cauliflower, for example. Veggies in combination taste much better than just plain. In winter I enjoy turnip greens & squashes. Cabbage is a versatile veggie, good for filler in soups & stews, sauteed, microwaved, or sliced for low-fat cole slaw made with Splenda. For munchies, I love to microwave a tub of Brussels sprouts or cauliflower & keep it in the fridge for mindless snacking (you know, when you get those urges to eat but you're not really hungry). A little butter or oil won't hurt you and, in fact, makes the vegetables more nutritious. Your body absorbs the nutrients better when a little fat is present with the veggies. Sometimes I like to make a green sauce of chopped fresh spinach & French parsley in a little cream & parmesan cheese, heated in a sauce pot. I serve this over a big plate of broccoli & cauliflower, and it's delicious. There are so few calories in the veggies that you can afford to indulge in the cream sauce. But then, that's dinner -- no bread, no side dishes, no heavy meats. Anyway, didn't mean to hijack this thread. Just wanted to pass on some good veggie food ideas. When you walk through the cookie/cracker aisle with indifference, but your mouth starts watering when you get to the produce section, you know you've made a good change!

Sorry for not getting back, just looked at this post. The more I play with this kitchen, the more I agree with the architects vision of leaving the range on the pantry/laundry wall. @mammagoose, how long do you suggest for the range wall? it is currently drawn 8’6”. As far as the bathroom, yeah DH wants it left there, as per architect’s design. I definetly prefer a square shape island but just havent figured out how to make software behave the way, I want it to. Lol Here are a few ideas that I have contemplated:

Yes, that 1st one is Custard Candy. Posting frustration, I really did not think it would work, and this one did not act like it was going to work. The Westbourne has been here about 5 years and a has really been a good one. It looks like this a lot of the time, full of lovely wide open perfect blooms. If only it were a bit taller, blooms are barely out of the foliage. It still attracts a lot of attention. Sherry, sailing at Dawn is beautiful, it has had a few splotchy blooms this year, I don't remember the problem last year. Celeste, I when Katrina Heroes opened I could not find the tag. It opened with several blooms, and has 7 scapes, I have been going crazy trying to remember what it was and where it came from. Finally found tag yesterday, right up against the plant, must have grown a lot. It has at least 7 fans, so the size got me. Every bloom has been absolutely beautiful. SAILING at Dawn opens well here, but I think you would get the splotches. Mant, this is as close as my phone will get, it REFUSES to let me change, Sailing at Dawn is about 24" tall here, I can handle that, although I planted it behind some taller ones and need to move it. The Westbourne is always this height, not way into the foliage, but barely. If the plant did not do so well... Maryl, I got Dixie last spring, it bloomed, and it rebloomed. We had a mean winter here, no snow cover, then crazy warm, then cold spring. Some daylilies noticed, but not that one, seems to be handling our humidity lately well too. I think you will like it. Considering all the ruffles, it dies not hang up, but some ruffles fall over the flower and I don't care for that.

And if I stand on our highest hill I can almost see you. Dido and I are on the same latitude and 'as the crow flies' only 55 miles apart (just measured it on the map) but as our English/Welsh roads are SO crowded and because various river valleys get in the way it would probably take me the best part of two hours by car to reach her. Time for me to call up my helicopter and Dido her faithful dragon . . . he of the uncertain temper and foul breath.

I think I recall reading about a Post Office being closed because there was another one about 4 miles away on the map.
Problem was that there was a mountain within those four miles and so the PO was a two hours trip by bus...
When I brought my husband over to the UK on his first visit, being used to driving vast distances in Australia, he thought he would be able to cover the whole place in a few days!
Only if one drives solely on the motorways and doesn't do any sight seeing, my dear!

And here in Maine we thought we invented the sentence, "You can't get there from here!"

Lots of peninsulas, not always well marked on maps. A town that is in fact only a few hundred yards away requires a 40 mile drive. Also large undeveloped wooded areas and few roads - a tourist site that one thinks would make a quick and easy visit can take the better part of a day of driving. At least it is usually a scenic drive! :)

Hello Dido - I just don't find myself posting as often as I used to, but for you I'm delighted to make an exception!

Annpan - your comment reminds me of the old story about the difference between Brits and Americans (and it applies to Australians too) - they think a hundred years is a long time, and Brits think a hundred miles is a long way.

Martin, good to see a post from you too. That is so right about the time and distance. My Australian husband, on his first visit, was staggered to see a building in London with an establishment date in the 17th Century. I think it was a pub!
But a visitor from Damascus would politely say "Oh, quite recent!"
