Bibliophil seems to be working again

I had given up on Bibliophil.org last summer when I was unable to enter any new books into my library.

Today I was clearing out my bookmarks and before I deleted the shortcut to Bibliophil, I gave it one last try. To my utter amazement, it let me in! I was able to enter six months worth of reading, and I'm cautiously optimistic it will continue to function.

Because I have eight years of books entered there, I never switched to another website, and I'm willing to give it another try. I always liked their format and functionality -- I still have no idea what happened over there.

Anyone else still using this? Just figured I'd share my experience. Here's hoping it continues to work!

Sheri, thanks for letting us know! I had already deleted Bibliophil from my favorites, figuring it was gone for good. I've tried several replacements but only use them sporadically. I hope this means that I can return to checking out your reviews, Sheri. It was force of habit for a lot of years. :-)

I'm off to see if I can update my library. I'll pass the word to other former Bibliophil users I know. Thanks again!

If you are talking about the SteamFresh Cycle... When you start the Display says 20:00 remaining, For the next 4 minutes you will hear what sounds like water boiling in a teakettle, only quietly, Then, between 4-6 minutes, the inside of the drum will become steamy, and you will not be able to see well inside the drum, as the window gets steamed up. You do not see steam shooting all over the place, like a wallpaper steamer. From the manual: Steam goes into trhe drum under its own power. It is not pumped in. I also read that it might take a couple of steam cycles to get the steam pump primed with water. The steam then only lasts a couple of minutes. The rest of the time is for the clothes to cool and tumble so no new wrinkles set in. The inside of the drum will only be warm and steamy for those short minutes between about 4-10 minutes into the cycle.

cool! thanks for all of your feedback. We've added the multiple dates read feature. There are some tiny bugs to iron out. I'm also gonna add a way to add the same book more than once. This way you can have different reviews and ratings for the same book if you want. This would be a bit different from multiple dates read, since the review will be tied to multiple dates in the first instance. And, to answer jwttrans' feedback, yes - the no ISBN issue is a big one. And that is (at this point) the next top priority! Allow to enter a book without an ISBN.

I am starting to get the "hang" of this site after many grumps and grumbles. I found some of the instructions from various people very handy. Also found that you can put your favorite sites in Favorites and go directly to the site without signing in.

I’ll be the odd man out. If I were such a bibliophile, I’d spend the most money in beautiful furniture in which to display books. At quickie glance, the cases look very Home made; a shame for such a pretty house. you know, Like people who love shoes and have gorgeous closets; or people that love quilting and arrange their fabrics beautifully; or gardeners with their greenhouses. Not everyone, but people with means, such as it seems people who lived here had, S/h invested in nice book casing.

Hope you are in the habit of doing a regular "export" of the data from the site, so that you don't lose anything if it vanishes again....

export how? with a little usb-thingie? flash drive, thumb drive, memory stick, etc?

Bibliophil does have an export feature -- I haven't tried it since last year so I don't know if it's still functioning. It will export your titles, authors, date read and ratings (but NOT your book reviews) to an Excel spreadsheet that you can then save on your own computer. At least, that's how I understand it (my computer knowledge has some serious gaps). I keep an ink-and-paper reading notebook as back up, so I don't really need the Excel document. Now if the spreadsheet came with my book reviews, I'd be much more interested in having it.
